Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager who enjoys working in fast-paced environments and independently creating solutions. This position will work closely with AI ethics researchers, in-house counsel, security teams, and Sony colleagues across the group globally on a number of AI ethics related initiatives. They will lead best engineering practices, along with developing and implementing continuous integration. This role will encompass both technical program management and general project management aspects in varying ratios as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Design, maintain and streamline technical workflows for multiple projects
• Work with engineering, research, and partnership teams to deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment
• Allocate researchers to tasks based on their expertise
• Identify bottlenecks in workflows, propose and implement solutions
• Create, update, and maintain project documentation
• Identify relevant metrics and report progress to relevant stakeholders
• Handle day-to-day project management and project coordination work as required
• Work with Program Managers to ensure projects are thoroughly scoped in collaboration with relevant parties in advance of launch

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• Ability to respond strategically and methodically to rapid change - Sony AI projects are ambitious and involve working in unknown territories. The ability to understand and plan for knock-on effects of ever-changing requirements is vital.
• Ability to communicate strategically and clearly in a remote team is essential; our team is distributed across multiple continents at least half our communication is asynchronous.
• Minimum 4 year’s managing technical projects
•  Systematic approach to documentation, file management, and version control.
• Extensive experience creating and implementing project plans, charters, and schedules.
• Extensive knowledge of Project Management software (Jira, Monday.com, Microsoft Projects, Wrike, Notion, etc.)
• Knowledge of and experience with machine learning algorithms
• Advanced proficiency in programming languages and coding, such as Python; extensive knowledge of and experience with GitHub
• Native level English, written and spoken

Preferable major

• Bachelor’s degree in technology management, business administration, computer science, software engineering; candidates with equivalent real-world experience are also welcome

Desired Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• Business-level Japanese (equivalent to JLPT N2 and higher)
• Knowledge of AI and AI ethics concepts
• Excellent knowledge of Scrum Master framework, including techniques and best practices
