The computational science group drives innovation by integrating bioinformatics, ML/AI and physics-based modeling into business practices, to accelerate biologics discovery with greater success. We seek a creative and collaborative bioinformatician with expertise in next-generation sequencing and immune repertoire analysis to join the group. As a core team member, you will develop novel solutions to tackle exciting problems in multidisciplinary team setting. The position requires outstanding competencies of bioinformatics within and outside the field of application, as well as deep understanding of scientific and technical principles, concepts, and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement data processing and analytics pipeline to enable accelerated next-generation sequencing (NGS) based antibody discovery and engineering.
  • Develop and apply tools or algorithms to mine repertoire data (public and proprietary), to elucidate on key scientific inquires and to enable in silico discovery.
  • Conduct concerted data analysis to understand the connectivity across in silico and in vitro data, to deliver practical insights propelling project advancement.
  • Share and effectively communicate bioinformatics-derived perspective within project teams to design appropriate experiments and facilitate discovery and engineering strategy.
  • Contribute technical domain knowledge and expertise to suggest new insights or initiatives, partner effectively with others to translate hypotheses into actions.
  • Present strategies, approaches, results, and conclusions in static and interactive formats with visualization.
  • Actively engage in the external environment and contribute to the field through scientific publications and presentations.

This role will be embedded in Lilly’s Medicines Innovation Hub (MIH), which serves as innovative scientific unit working across all disease areas to identify and develop quality targets, hits, leads, and drug candidates.

Basic Requirements:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or similar field.
  • Programming experience using Python or Java is required.

Additional Preferences:

  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience in drug discovery and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to use antibody structure and informatics for discovery or engineering.
  • Proven record in successfully deploying antibody repertoire process and analysis workflow.
  • Proficiencies in scientific Python software such as bioinformatics toolkits (Biopython); data analysis tools (numpy/scipy/sklearn/Pandas); visualization tools/libraries and dimensionality reduction and clustering algorithms.
  • Hands on experience with data aggregation, manipulation, integration, mining, and analysis.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration/continuous delivery, packaging, deployment, Amazon Web Services, SQL, database design a plus.
  • Familiarity with molecular modeling toolkits such as CCG MOE or Schrodinger PyMOL is a plus.
  • Experience on building and using machine learning models.
  • A passion for creating great quality, re-usable, documented, and tested code.
  • A self-motivated worker who can take ownership of core bioinformatic operations.
  • Ability to dig deeply through various data types; demonstrated experience in pinpointing resolving incongruities between tools/framework.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to explain complex ideas to computational scientists, experimentalists, and protein engineers.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work with a multi-functional team.
