Senior Research Scientist AADS (Advanced Analytics and Data Sciences)

Eli Lilly and Company is seeking a Senior Research Scientist AADS to join our team in Indianapolis, IN.

Serve as a member of Lilly Advanced Analytics and Data Sciences organization to support the entire Lilly enterprise, from Discovery through Development to Manufacturing and Commercialization of our medicines. Partner with key business partners and work within team to identify, scope, and execute analytic efforts that answer business questions, solve business needs, and add business value. Collaborate with scientific teams on digital biomarker (dBM) and digital health (DH) device development. Responsible for the design, analysis and reporting of dBM and DH studies: define the quantitative and analyzable study endpoints that are used to establish if the primary, secondary, and exploratory objectives of a study are met; provide quantitative design justification, including power analysis, statistical simulation, of study aspects, including sample size, duration, and key endpoints; leverage expertise in statistics and AI/ML to lead the development of statistical analysis plans and AI/ML analysis approaches for the studies; develop computer programs in R and Python to implement the planned statistical and AI/ML analyses; report and interpret quantitative study results through slides, journal articles, and internal technical reports; and develop algorithms based on data gathered by digital biomarker devices or digital health apps. Maintain a broad understanding of question and be fully engaged with teams to facilitate decisions grounded in data. Collaborate with other analytics team members to review and provide feedback on the analytics work being done and seek feedback from other team members. Stay current with respect to machine learning, statistical, mathematical and informatics modeling methodology to maintain proficiency in applying new and varied methods, Maintain competency in justifying methods selected. Present on AI/ML technical topics at internal seminars to audiences with AI/ML background. Reports to Lilly Corporate Center, Indianapolis, IN 46285. Telecommuting permitted. Must reside in the Indianapolis Metro Area. 5% travel required to professional conferences or other Lilly sites. Full time (40 hours/week). Job Requirements

  • Position requires a Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Biostatistics or related quantitative field.

Academic or work experience must have included:

  • Analytics-oriented programming languages, including Python/R and experience with low level languages, including C/C++;
  • Research experience in causal inference;
  • Research experience in reinforcement learning, deep learning, or general machine learning algorithms;
  • Communicating complex statistical and machine learning methods, results, interpretation to technical and non-technical audiences through journal publications, conferences presentations and posters, and seminars; and 
  • Collaborative projects with scientific investigators from medical fields (e.g. human or animal health) that required justification of study design (e.g. sample size), performing statistical analysis, and reporting of results.
