Job Description

Objectives:

  • We want to speed up the digital transformation of BASF Coatings. It is our ambition to become a data-driven organization and leverage on data science to promote efficiency and support business growth.
  • As data scientist you’ll create advanced machine learning models, algorithms, and systems to extract insights from data
  • Apply analytics, machine learning and statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modeling
  • As a data scientist you’ll be responsible for supporting the development of computing resources and custom enterprise-level tools to be used by analysts, developers, and other professionals

Main Task:

  • Work face to face with business stakeholders to understand paint points, needs and determine use cases on how to apply data science to create value
  • Explore and examine data to find hidden patterns
  • Browse and analyze enterprise databases to simplify and improve product development, marketing techniques, and business processes
  • Use predictive models to improve customer experience, revenue generation, and more
  • Explore and identify potential use of Machine Learning models in user stories.
  • Support the building, implementing and operationalizing digital products, enhance as well as document their statistical and machine learning models.
  • Foster usage and demand of data analytics as well as visualizations and support end-to-end process analysis
  • Work together with Data Stewards and Data Engineers to enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Coordinate with various technical/functional teams to implement models and monitor results
  • Develop processes, techniques, and tools to analyze and monitor model performance while ensuring data accuracy
  • Be part of the global BASF data team/community, actively learn and contribute
  • Master of Science or PhD in computer science, business informatics, mathematics, physics, engineering or similar fields.
  • At least more than 2 years of working experience in data science or advanced data analysis
  • Familiar with agile methods and advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
  • Expertise with statistics tools, e. g. Matlab,SAS, relational databases, e. g. Oracle, SAP R/3 or MS SQL, scripting tools , e.g. Python, Pearl or JavaScript, Query tools (SQL or noSQL) and Business Intelligence tools, e. g. Power BI.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques, including decision tree learning, clustering, artificial neural networks, etc., and their pros and cons
  • Knowledge and application experience in advanced statistical techniques and concepts, including, regression, distribution properties, statistical testing, etc
  • Experience/knowledge in statistics and data mining techniques, including, random forest, GLM/regression, social network analysis, text mining, etc.
  • Have sharp analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent team spirit.
  • Experience using and developing data architectures
  • Business fluent Chinese skills
  • Business fluent English skills
  • German fluent skills (is a plus)
