Job Description

As part of the Application Engineering team for the Big Data & Data Science Platform Organization, within Marsh Digital, you will drive technical and strategic elements of data derivation for Blue[i] – Marsh’s enhanced analytics and risk insights platform. You will be responsible for designing and developing innovative implementations in support of Digital solutions delivery across a global, client-facing portfolio. You will act as technical lead in defining, executing and enhancing data pipelines creation to enable movement of data from internal and external source systems to Marsh’s Big Data Lake; data transformation and curation; and designing and building logical and physical data models to create consumable data stores.

You will collaborate with a diverse and experienced team of colleagues, clients, and partners to solve complex data problems in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams across Platform, Ingestion, Derivation, Product, Digital Design, Sales, Partnerships, Marketing, Privacy and other partner teams to craft and deliver best-in-class digital insurance experiences that make our clients and end-users successful while advancing our Digital platforms. We will count on you to:

  • Implement a comprehensive, thoughtful and best-in-class data derivation solution that will support and enhance our portfolio of Digital products and services across Marsh’s client-facing Digital platforms (Blue[i])
  • Partner closely with our business and product teams to understand client needs, build creative data solutions, and partner cross-functionally with Big Data Operations, Platform, Data Derivation teams to engineer end-to-end product delivery
  • Actively contribute toward our culture of continuous learning by proactively identifying and evangelizing best practices globally; Play a key role in advancing the culture of the organization
  • Manage multiple and concurrent data delivery priorities across Blue[i] product portfolio

What you need to have:

  • 5 years of data engineering experience in B2B, finance or technology; Prior insurance or FI industry experience a strong plus
  • Experience in designing and developing solutions in Relational databases such as Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server etc. and No-SQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra etc.)
  • Experience with SQL and MongoDb aggregates
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Scala, JavaScript etc.
  • Experience with MicroServices architecture
  • Experience in Hadoop and Big Data platforms including cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Azure & GCP and services such EMR, Juypter notebooks, SageMaker, HIVE/Presto
  • Experience and success in developing ingestion and derivation processes end-to-end
  • Experience in developing and driving alignment around driving data-related deliverables to completion with minimal guidance
  • Hands-on experience in agile delivery and lean methodologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills, self-organized, and process-driven with a knack for balancing the big picture with the details that matter
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Technology Management, or similar; Master’s Degree a definite plus
