Role Summary

The Cell Data Science team is tasked with accelerating the R&D timelines for materials and manufacturing innovations for batteries using advanced modeling, analytics and machine learning. We are building end-to-end data and ML pipelines to serve data solutions to domain experts in Cell Engineering. As a Data Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide array of analytics and algorithmic tasks, including but not limited time-series problems, physics-informed ML, complex systems and cost modeling, anomaly detection, vision systems, and ML-driven optimization in the context of battery R&D manufacturing. You will collaborate with other data scientist and engineers as well as battery domain experts to improve our processes and products in a fast pace, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Join a team developing the next generation of battery cells for Rivian!
  • Develop models and pipelines and derive insights from R&D and manufacturing data.
  • Collect, organize, process and model data from various sources to improve laboratory experimentation and cell manufacturing.
  • Be a key stakeholder in decision making for developing scalable data analytics solutions from R&D level through mass production scale-up.
  • Work with external vendors and internal teams to deliver software, enabling process development and manufacturing
  • Drive system integration, metric development, ad-hoc analytics and visualizations, and product traceability and quality efforts.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience delivering software, ML or data products.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, and libraries including NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn and similar.
  • Strong background in machine learning and data analysis fundamentals.
  • Experience with a deep learning framework like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Experience with relevant AWS tools such as Sagemaker, S3, RDS etc.
  • Experience dealing with and training on terabytes of data.
  • Knowledge of large-scale data processing and computing tools such as Spark.
  • Experience with building dashboards and running complex SQL queries.

Education: BS in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics or an Engineering discipline. MS or PhD preferred.
