Responsibilities
- Design DOEs for process validation and improvement, failure analysis, conduct failure analysis experiment and report/present findings in an efficient way.
- Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external suppliers on cell performance analysis and provide feedback for manufacturing improvement.
- Derive insights from cell formation team R&D and manufacturing data pipelines as well as inputs from models.
- Establish and maintain the data architecture for formation R&D and manufacturing.
- Develop data processing, management, and visualization tools to support laboratory experimentation, process development and cell manufacturing.
- Be a key stakeholder in decision making for developing scalable data analytic solutions from R&D level through mass production scale-up.
- Propose cell design/manufacturing/material improvement plans based on the data and experiment results.
- Prepare cell data analysis reports with visualizations and direct the communication and presentation of findings to project teams and at executive reviews.
- Develop internal test standards for routine tasks, communicate the standards internally with cross-functional teams in Rivian.
Qualifications
- Bachelor/Masters/PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similar technical field. Technical skillsets that relate to data science and analytics is desirable.
- 3+ years (with advance degree) or 5+ years of experience in Lithium-ion battery research/engineering (postgraduate) with knowledge on cell manufacturing; industrial experience is a plus.
- Highly data driven; familiar with statistical software (e.g., JMP, R, etc.) and approaches to provide data to make informed decisions.
- Experience in script development, and prior experience with handling battery testing data for fast data analysis and visualization.
- Specialized knowledge of electrochemistry (CV, EIS, PITT, GITT, HPPC, etc.) and lithium-ion batteries is required and experience in failure analysis is desirable.
- Experience in dQ/dV, dV/dQ data processing and interpretation.
- Hands on experience in Li-ion cell failure, post-mortem, and root-cause analysis.
- Hands on experience in characterization techniques including SEM/EDS, XPS, XRD, XRF, GC-MS, ICP, TGA, DSC, CT, light microscope.
- Experience in interfacing with common manufacturing software tools (such as MES, SPC, LIMS etc.), and related analytics software package is a plus.
- Knowledge of battery testing and formation protocols used for battery cell manufacturing is a plus.
- Experience with any data visualization techniques and tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Plotly, Tableau, etc.) is a plus.

- Capable of working as a member of a team across several cross functional disciplines, including product design, quality, construction, production, supply chain, controls, external vendors etc.
