Job Description

As a Data Science Manager at our Bangalore center, you will hold a strategic role in advancing our modeling, data science and AI initiatives by leading a global team of computational and data scientists, machine learning engineers, and analysts, and extracting insights from the vast amount of operational data across our fleet, and enable data-driven decision making at scale. Opportunity scope ranges from accurately predicting subsurface properties using machine learning; predicting failure of machinery using historical data, and using advanced analytics to increase revenue from commercial sale of fuels and lubricants. You will have access to massive data sets, immense compute power and challenging, previously unsolved problems in the oil and gas domain. In your role, you will also oversee technical competency building and leadership development for our Bangalore data science teams

What you will do

• Provide strategic leadership and direction to global data science teams, leading throughout all stages of technology development, from discovery to deployment of solutions
• Experience in leading digital and data science teams to deploy digital transformation solutions across the enterprise
• End-to-End experience in data science solutions – discovery to deployment
• Lead a growing multidisciplinary organization comprising computational scientists, data scientists and optimization experts working to solve challenging business problems by developing and applying state-of-the-art machine learning techniques
• Participate and contribute to overall technical capability growth through recruiting, competency building, and staff interchange at the Bengaluru Technology Center
• Partner with multidisciplinary domain experts across the corporation to identify, scope, and develop machine learning solutions and provide insights to our business partners to reduce costs and/or increase revenue
• Spearhead development and deployment of enterprise AI solutions in the space of operations, such as predictive maintenance, production optimization across upstream and downstream businesses
• Establish external engagements (universities, third party vendors) in the data analytics space to accelerate value delivery of data science products across the enterprise
• Lead staffing and career development activities across multiple cross-functional teams, and help grow the next generation leadership (technical and management) in India for modeling and data science

About You

Skills and Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD from a recognized university in engineering, mathematical sciences, physics or related quantitative disciplines 
• Minimum 15 years of extensive experience in individual and leadership roles within modeling, data science, machine learning, digital transformation; energy industry experience will be an advantage; specific experience leading MNC’s enabling their digital transformation journey
• Require work experience outside India, as part of on-site leadership team, as well as experience working with global teams and different cultures
• Deep expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, computational methods and how these methods apply to oil and gas problems
• Expertise in end-to-end development of data-driven solutions to solve business problems in an engineering or related field; deployment experience at enterprise scale will be an advantage

• Demonstrated experience of scoping and opportunity identification of data science problems based on business needs
• Demonstrated leadership experience in influencing business partners on uptake of data science solutions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with technical experts within and outside the company, as well as ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Prior experience building and leading modeling and data science technology teams, as well as mentorship of early-career data scientists.
• Proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, C/C++, R
• Familiarity with developing, applying, and analyzing physics-based computational models and/or data driven computational models and simulations is an advantage
• Familiarity with software development practices, agile methodologies, DevOps, version control
• Must possess valid passport; having a valid US Visa for immediate travel would be preferable

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

• Prior knowledge of commercial software development and/or experience in commercial software teams
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with Oil and Gas Industry
