Job Description

Objectives of this Role:

  • Enjoy working with high-aptitude teams across the Institute to build on your existing expertise by self/team-learning new skills to solve complex systems engineering challenges that benefit the world.
  • Responsible for design, analysis, documentation, verification, and test of analog, digital, and power electronics for data acquisition, digital communications, power management, and embedded control systems.
  • Develop, build, test, benchmark, modify in-situ (hack) and improve upon complex systems including electrified vehicles, energy storage systems and space flight hardware.
  • Design, build and test niche application circuits and control systems for niche applications. Applications include new control capabilities, benchmarking and complex precision test stands.
  • Benchmarking activities often involve real-time active modification of the system signals in-situ to enable precision test & measurement.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Design electronic components, systems, and products including analog, digital, and power electronics. Utilize computer-aided design and engineering software for design and simulation of circuits, systems, printed circuit boards, and assemblies (Altium, SPICE).
  • Analyze circuits, systems, and data for troubleshooting, reliability, and effectiveness.
  • Work with various engineers, clients, and management to solve complex engineering problems and recommend designs, repairs, and modifications to achieve project goals.
  • Provide technical support, instruction, and documentation to staff and clients.
  • Knowledge of embedded programming and scripting languages (e.g. C, C++, Verilog, Python, TCL) a plus.

Requirements:

  • Requires a PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 0-5 years: Circuit design (analog, digital, power)
  • 0-3 years: Circuit analysis and simulation
  • 0-3 years: Hands-on Research or Development
  • 0-3 years: Programming/Scripting a plus (e.g. C, C++, Verilog, Python, TCL)
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Work assignment is in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
