In our Therapeutic Area focused team we’re looking for an experienced computational biologist to join our mission. As Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist for Cardiometabolic Disease Research (CMDR) you identify novel putative targets by cutting edge in silico analyses in areas such as retinopathies, NASH, or obesity. You strengthen new therapeutic concepts and identify biomarkers, using state-of-the-art computational methods to drive faster, improved decision making, ultimately developing impactful therapies for our patients.

This position collaborates and interacts with stakeholders and colleagues on-site and at our U.S. site to further expand our global portfolio. 

Tasks & responsibilities as Senior Scientist

  • In your new role, you will work with data from multiple omics domains including transcriptomics (RNAseq, scRNAseq), proteomics and genomics data sets. You will use established and innovative methods to identify potential targets or biomarkers, validate targets, and / or strengthen the human disease link.
  • In interdisciplinary teams you will contribute to projects during all phases - from experimental design to downstream analysis, using state-of-the art infrastructure in HPC- and cloud-based environments.
  • Aiming to push boundaries in drug discovery, you will establish and develop new analysis strategies in the field of omics data, network biology and machine learning.In close collaboration with colleagues of various departments, you will contribute to and implement data-driven solutions to support target identification and target-driven research.
  • The presentation of results to your stakeholders will be also part of your profile.

Additional tasks for the role as Principal Scientist

  • You will be responsible to execute strategic priorities and provide scientific guidance to co-workers and external partners. 
  • By driving and overseeing scientific projects, you provide impact to the TA portfolio.

Requirements as Senior Scientist

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology research or similar disciplines with strong quantitative focus and excellent programming skills. Alternatively, master’s degree with long-term professional experience.
  • Several years of experience in projects around human disease biology; experience in cardiometabolic indications is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge in bioinformatics and computational biology with a focus on omics data.
  • Sound expertise in programming with R/Bioconductor and / or Python with a solid background in statistics and experimental design.
  • Highly motivated team player with excellent organization- and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken

Additional requirements for the role as Principal Scientist

  • Extensive expertise in the pharmaceutical industry with experience in conducting projects in human disease biology, ideally with a focus on cardiometabolic disease research
