The Connected Asset Data Specialist – Regulatory Compliance position is a specialized role that contributes to enterprise regulatory compliance by supporting internal clients and engaging with various industry associations. This position provides support for identifying, understanding, and communicating various regulatory requirements associated with product data from various engine, machine and power system products and their supporting digital applications. Data is an increasingly important part of Caterpillar’s business model, and this role is critical to reducing business risk. This position will focus on regulatory requirements related to product data in the EU and UK. Additional responsibilities for this role include understanding the regulatory landscape and market access requirements for all products imported into the EU and the UK.
Direct work with other business units and teams requires the incumbent to demonstrate skills in negotiation, building consensus and achieving compromise. Ability to collaborate with all levels of clients or internal process partners is key. Impact of decisions made by this position may be far-reaching, to include the project team or immediate work group, division and/or business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and Caterpillar markets. Decisions may significantly impact product safety or security, warranty, patents, costs, sales, customer perceptions and brand reputation.
Strong communication, social, leadership, project management and business management skills are essential. Major challenges facing incumbents are keeping up to date with evolving regulatory compliance requirements and technology by comprehending complex texts and concepts from journals, industry standards and regulations and demonstrating technical expertise in specialty areas of data compliance. This position must demonstrate the ability to develop and manage complex projects to plan. Demonstrated skills in leading teams through challenging technical issues are essential. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively across the organization and create professional interactions with internal teams and external agencies around the globe. Candidates for this position must be comfortable working in a rapidly evolving regulatory and commercial environment.
Job Duties
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or similar field of study from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. Extensive job-related experience in engineering, data science. or compliance related role
Top Candidates will also have
Experience with radio or data communications and asset connectivity
Experience with telematics certification, data regulations and digital app development
Engineering development or validation experience
Excellent analytical skills
Extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications
Self-starter, strong technical skills, and leadership skills
Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units, customers, and suppliers
Capability to network and communicate across a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and management levels
