Job Purpose:

This position reports to an IT Manager. His/her main responsibilities is to lead the development of Engineering Data Lake in Snowflake and support the enterprise leverage of engineering data for downstream applications, such as dashboard, data analytics and application development.

Description:

Below are a few responsibilities for the role:

  • Competent to perform data ingestion, data modeling, database optimization, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work;
  • Acts as general technical support for development and support groups; provides data engineering and application/technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members;
  • Works on more complex application/technical problem identification and resolution. Being able understand the business challenge and requirements.
  • Works independently on complex processes and modules that may be used by one or more programs or systems;
  • Develops major system modules or programs based on requirements gathered from system customers;
  • Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of system components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results;
  • Fully knowledgeable of programming languages appropriate to the platform supported, program design and specification development, programming logic, logic diagrams, system analysis techniques, testing, debugging, documentation standards, file design, storage and internal systems;
  • Performs integration tasks for in-house developed systems and/or purchased hardware and software solutions;
  • Assists customers with documentation, training and usability efforts.
  • Typically serves as a team member on one or more 6 Sigma projects.

Basic Requirements:

  • Requires a relevant degree, technical certification or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledgeable of the appropriate programming languages; computing hardware and software; and current development processes and tools.
  • Three to six years in systems development or support work is common.

Top Candidate Will Also Have:

  • Knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar’s organization.
