Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform research and development in cognitive psychology, data science, human- or brain-machine interface (HMI/BMI), and other areas relevant to human-machine collaboration systems. Tasks may include the design, development, data collection, and data analysis involving neurophysiological sensors, implementation of machine learning algorithms and computational cognitive models, and/or development of HMI/BMI in a variety of applications. Additional job functions include solving customer problems, writing invention disclosures, publishing papers, briefing customers, writing proposals and assisting in marketing HRL expertise.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Research experience in one or more of the following areas: cognitive psychology (cognitive effects, mental and cognitive modeling, sensemaking), (neural) statistical modeling, machine learning, human subjects experiment (design, data collection), neurophysiology, augmented reality (AR)), and human- or brain-machine interface (HMI/BMI) development for human-machine collaboration systems. Experience developing innovative solutions based upon the application of relevant research results from a wide variety of sources. Proficiency in Python, C/C++, C#, or Matlab. Experience in using statistical analysis and machine learning tools and packages. Any programming experience with high-performance computing will be a plus.

KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:

Background in one or more of the following areas: cognitive neuroscience, neural modeling, statistical modeling, neurophysiology, and machine learning.

EDUCATION DESIRED:

M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Applied Math, Computational Neuroscience, Statistics, Machine Learning, or related fields.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Good communication (verbal and written) skills, software programming, human subjects research, active participation in R&D team activities is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. person status required.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $87,000 - $145,000 + bonus + benefits.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15is required. U.S. Person includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
