Job Description

Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Primary job function is the development of autonomous systems that satisfy strong safety and reliability requirements. Concretely, this will involve the development of new software systems and the integration of research software on existing autonomous systems platforms. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in one of autonomous systems control, planning or perception. Tasks will include the development, implementation, training, evaluation and use of algorithms for control, planning and perception on autonomous systems platforms. Additional job functions include solving customer problems, writing invention disclosures, publishing papers, briefing customers, and assisting in marketing HRL expertise.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Hands-on experience in robotics (ideally working with autonomous systems platforms). Experience in ROS. Experience with machine learning for control, planning or perception. Software development experience in languages such as C/C++ and Python. Experience using libraries/frameworks such as OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar. Experience in the use of formal methods (e.g., reachability analysis, control barrier functions, runtime monitoring, etc.) for assuring the safety of autonomous systems.

EDUCATION DESIRED:

Ph.D. or M.S. in Computer Science, EE or related fields

KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:

Background in robotics including a strong understanding of the roles of control, perception and planning in robotics systems. The ideal candidate will have some understanding of the fundamentals of how formal methods can be used to assure safety of autonomous or cyber-physical systems.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.
