In 2024, we are focused on Autodesk Assistant, a universal LLM-based chatbot designed to provide generative responses to a wide range of customer requests. This system is in production and is already making it possible to enrich conversations with customers and obtain better results. Other examples of our work include routing models from customer requests to agents, designing effective scripts for our help desk chatbot, and measuring the impact of automation on customer forums .

Position presentation

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on the team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing and producing data-driven solutions to address important business challenges within a work program. Early Lead Machine Learning Engineers work at a programmatic scale, taking responsibility for large technical solutions and coordinating delivery with multiple stakeholder teams.

Reporting to the Senior Team Leader, this role combines direct management of a number of machine learning engineers with hands-on technical skills.

As our first Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you will provide technical guidance and thought leadership for the team and the broader company. We emphasize an agile, practical and technical approach at all levels of the team. As a group, we want to continually improve our machine learning processes as well as our knowledge of relevant trends and techniques in our areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, develop and manage less experienced team members to deliver key machine learning-enabled functionality for our digital customer platform
  • You will develop a work program, in partnership with stakeholders, to achieve strategic objectives in various horizons
  • Translate business needs and goals into problems that can be solved through a combination of data, statistics and machine learning
  • You will design and implement machine learning capabilities that enhance Autodesk's e-commerce and customer platforms.
  • You will perform statistical and data analysis and exploration to generate datasets for training and model development
  • Collaborate with other team members to find better solutions and position our team at the forefront of machine learning technology and practices

Minimum requirements

  • Master's or PhD in computer science, statistics, engineering, economics or related field We also welcome applicants from non-traditional machine learning backgrounds
  • At least five years of experience in machine learning
  • At least 2 years managing or leading a machine learning team
  • Proficient in Python Machine Learning stack, e.g. Pandas, etc.
  • Knowledge of experimental design and analysis of results
  • Demonstrate experience applying machine learning, including deep learning (PyTorch) and classical machine learning (Scikit-Learn)
  • Demonstrate experience leading machine learning teams in deploying and improving machine learning features in production
  • Demonstrate experience working in cross-functional teams to deliver ML solutions at scale.

Desired skills

  • Knowledge of major language models, particularly in the context of interactive dialogue systems and conversational agents (RAG, generative AI, conversation agents)
  • Experience deploying natural language processing systems such as those related to information extraction (IR), recommendation systems (RecSys) or other natural language processing applications
  • Experience in SQL and big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Glue, (Py)Spark or Athena
  • Advanced software engineering skills, including data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with data pipelines and model serving in AWS
  • Experience in MLOps, particularly on AWS, at scale
