Job Description

This is our Vice President, Enterprise Architecture and Data role for those who, through their work, are willing to support our core value - people. The Vice President of Enterprise Architecture and Data is a key position reporting directly to the CIO and has the responsibility of directing enterprise architecture and data strategy to drive change. Key objectives for the role include digital thought leadership and the strategic execution of transformation initiatives. This position will be charged with establishing enterprise architecture and data analytic capability within Qualcomm.

Scope of Responsibility:

Enterprise Architecture (EA):

  • Develop and maintain the Enterprise Architecture Blueprint (i.e., the Enterprise Reference Architecture) that aligns with business objectives and technical systems architecture.
  • Develop and maintain architectural standards, frameworks, practices, methods, services, templates, repositories, etc. and ensure coverage and adoption across the community of Qualcomm architects.
  • Develop and maintain tooling to support the activities of architects, such as BizzDesign, EA Marketplace, Confluence and MS Teams.
  • Drive awareness, education and training for the community of architects in order to drive enterprise-level consistence and quality in architectural practices.
  • Work with individual project teams to align with and adopt EA practices, solutions and platforms in order to accelerate their development velocity.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in Enterprise, Portfolio, and Solution architecture, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and alignment with industry standards.

Enterprise Data Platform (EDP):

  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders both in business and technology to gain alignment between enterprise and application datasets and definitions.
  • Define and own Enterprise Data Strategy and roadmap that clearly articulates the data and integration platform capabilities.
  • Build and maintain a state-of-the-art, highly scalable, modern data and integration platform
  • Work closely with the infrastructure, security and development teams to manage and optimize different types of enterprise data (Transactional, Operational, Historical, Analytical, Master & Documents) within the data and integration platform.
  • Provide Data as a Service (DaaS) capabilities for enterprise datasets that the various project teams can discover, self-serve and contribute to.
  • Be the steward champion for data and information lifecycle management that ensures data governance and ownership, data security and compliance as well as data quality and operations across the organization.

Enterprise Technology Services (ETS):

  • Define, build, and maintain common technology services that multiple business units can leverage to build composite solutions for specific business challenges.
  • Promote the reuse of common services to enhance efficiency and reduce redundancy.
  • Work across product teams to identify synergies and development strategies for Enterprise Technology Services that should be universal across the enterprise.

Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate deep technical knowledge and broad technical perspective across various domains, including applications, data, infrastructure, cloud, security, and software.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, advocating for their integration where beneficial.

Communication and Influence:

  • Acts as the official enterprise spokesperson for EA, EDP and ETS, creating a close-knit group of architects federated throughout the enterprise.
  • Effectively communicate the technical strategy, plans, and achievements to executive leadership, business units, and IT teams.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be key advisor to CIO in defining and directing enterprise architecture, integration, and data strategy.
  • Responsible for setting technology direction and overseeing development for all architectural practices and shared/common solutions across the IT portfolio.
  • Maintaining an enterprise-wide movement towards a cohesive enterprise/portfolio/solutions architecture and to manage the lifecycle of change across the technology landscape of Qualcomm.
  • The new leader will have the ability to manage both from a position of influence and innovation leadership as a member of the IT organization, as well as through direct management and orchestration of multiple platform/services teams. The end result of these activities is to achieve an optimum degree of operational synergy across the enterprise, and to integrate them in support of enterprise-level goals such new services enablement.
  • Lead, define, and operationalize enterprise architecture and data strategy and roadmap.
  • Spearhead the enterprise architecture initiative by building the current model, future state model, and transition state and application/technology roadmap.
  • Establish enterprise architecture guiding principles, processes and governance. • Direct and operationalize enterprise architecture strategy.
  • Lead and manage a team of solution architects, data architects, application architects, and data analytics and engineering resources.
  • Ensure projects align with strategic capabilities, target architecture, and technology standards.
  • Architect, design, and build highly scalable enterprise data management platform.
  • Master data management, data integration, and data analytics.
  • Build Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI capabilities.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and capture data and analytical requirements.
  • Selecting and integrating any Big Data tools and frameworks required to provide requested business capabilities.
  • Create, maintain, communicate and evangelize enterprise and data architecture principles, standards, best practices, and design patterns to IT teams.
  • Defining data retention and security policies.
  • Defining data governance.
  • Implementation experience to centralize data warehouses from multiple to a single warehouse approach.
  • Drive analytics for the organization, including KPI's for business performance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Fifteen (15) years relevant experience in software architecture, enterprise architecture, and data architecture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field of study.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Twenty (20) years relevant experience in software architecture, enterprise architecture, and data architecture.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field of study.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining architecture roadmaps.
  • Hands-on experience creating proof of concepts, prototypes, or MVPs.
  • Experience working with EA tools.
  • Proven track record as a leader in initiating, driving, architecting, and implementing enterprise data architecture.
  • Experience with database modeling, design, and governance. • SQL-based technologies (e.g., Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL).
  • Experience with data catalog or metadata management tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce Data Architecture metadata management tools.
  • Experience with Datalake, Streaming, Spark, and SparkML.
  • Experience with cloud computing environments, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Getting Work Done: The ability to be organized, resourceful, and planful. This includes the ability to leverage multiple resources to get things done and lay out tasks in sufficient detail. This also includes the ability to get things done with fewer resources and in less time, work on multiple tasks at once without losing track, and foresee and plan around obstacles.

Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of program management methodology (e.g., planning, scheduling, tracking, execution). This includes the ability to effectively use program management tools to carry out the program management function.

Pay range:

$243,500.00 - $365,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
