About the role

Analytics Innovation is a focused team within AIG extracting insights from data to enable better decision-making, provide better service and experience, and drive business growth. The team leverages latest technologies and approaches to solve business problems, optimize processes and improve organizational performance. We seek highly capable and motivated individuals to join us in this mission.

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Data Scientist to join our Analytics Innovation team. As the Lead Data Scientist, you will take a leadership role in shaping and driving data science strategy and initiatives at AIG. You will create a Data Science Center of Excellence and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop advanced analytic capabilities and guide project execution. This role requires strong leadership abilities, an innovative mindset, and exceptional technical skills to deliver data-driven solutions that shape, enable and impact business outcomes.

What you need to know:

  • Strategy and Planning: Advance innovation and create competitive advantage leveraging data science to develop and deploy differentiating capabilities. Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify and implement solutions aligned with business targets and objectives. Track, communicate and update progress with senior leaders.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, senior business leaders, data / analytics / ML engineers and software developers to identify, deploy and monitor impactful data science solutions.
  • Project Management: Prioritize, plan and drive development and successful deployment of data science projects from identification of use cases to implementation of models. Define and monitor KPIs to continually measure outcomes and model performance.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to engineering, data science and software development teams, promoting collaboration and an inclusive culture. Define and promote performance and ethical best practices in deploying and monitoring data science capabilities at scale. Guide and provide mentorship to a Center of Excellence data science team.
  • Advancing Capabilities: Develop internal assets, source external solution providers, and create partnerships that mature advanced analytics tools and methods to deliver actionable insights. Stay current with emerging technologies and techniques and evaluate and guide fit with organizational technical architecture, capabilities, and strategy.
  • Model Governance: Collaborate with privacy, legal and regulatory teams to develop, establish and ensure compliance in the ethical use of data science models. Define, document, and enforce best practices for model development, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Communicating Vision: Articulate strategic vision, roadmap, and solution architecture / methods to non-technical and technical terms to business and technical leaders to create alignment and joint movement.
  • Learning and Development: Develop and provide learning tools and pathways for upskilling and continuous improvement / expansion toward advanced analytics maturity. Keep up to date with latest advancements.

What we’re looking for:

Experience

  • 20+ years in data science.
  • 12+ years in financial services or insurance.
  • 10+ years in a leadership or managerial role.

Skills

  • Master’s or PhD in quantitative / statistical discipline.
  • Strong expertise in data analysis, deep / machine learning, and statistical modeling.
  • Strong expertise in cloud-based cognitive services.
  • Strong expertise in developing and deploying end-to-end AI/ML solutions.
