About the role

The VP, Data Management and Governance reports into the Global Head of Data Management & Governance. The ideal candidate will develop and drive the enterprise data quality and metadata management strategies and operating model to document and improve the quality of critical data identified in key data assets throughout the company. The role will require the ability to navigate across a wide variety of stakeholders and geographies in underwriting, claims, operations, and other functions and downstream consumers.

What you need to know:

  • Strategy: Lead the Data Quality and Metadata Management vision and strategy and partner with the Global Head of Data Management & Governance, other Data Office leaders, and business and functional leaders in validating and implementing the strategy.
  • Operating Model: Define/Improve the enterprise operating model including roles, responsibilities, and consistent processes across the organization and throughout the entire data lifecycle - ensuring the most effective and efficient outcomes.
  • Business Ownership of Tools: Take business ownership of the Collibra Data Governance Center and Informatica Data Quality tools influencing the implementation, organization, and maintenance of these platforms. Maintain/Improve these environments from a best practices and technical perspective as strategy and operating model evolve. Automate when possible and where it makes most sense. Support the technical owners of each platform from the perspective of planning, implementing, and testing bug fixes, setting up new features, and assisting with upgrades.
  • Align with Other Data Management Disciplines: Engage with the Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Privacy, Master / Reference Data Management, Data Architecture, BI and Data Warehousing, Data Science, and other teams to ensure data quality and metadata management activity aligns with the other capability needs including the Global Data Governance Accountability Framework. Ensure collaboration and consistency across these teams and in conversations with similar stakeholders.
  • Team Management: Manage a small team of data professionals (both business and technical) providing guidance and direction on priorities for the data quality and metadata management program and providing development, training and re-skilling as necessary. 
  • Standards, Best Practices, and Procedures: Support development and maintenance of standards, best practices, and procedures. Conduct periodic reviews of the Collibra Data Governance Center to ensure compliance with the data governance standards and policies.
  • Data Culture and Communication: Partner with our Data Culture and Communications Lead in designing and defining training and communications to ensure an excellent customer experience with our team and our tools.

What we’re looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or proven record of experience in Data Management and Governance roles. MS preferred.
  • 10+ years in Data Management, Data Governance or Data Quality and a minimum of 8+ years in managerial/leadership position.
  • 5+ years must be in a financial services or insurance industry.
  • Strong understanding of principles, procedures, and skills associated with data quality and metadata management and strong understanding of Data Management and Governance practices. Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or other comparable certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in administration, design, and development with data quality and metadata management tools.
  • Team player with highly motivated, positive, and collaborative attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, presentations skills, and high attention to detail.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to understand the long-term (big picture) and short-term perspectives of situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and with changing priorities and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong program and project management skills with ability to manage diverse projects impacting multiple roles and processes.
  • Ability to influence change and drive results. Must be a self-motivated driver to identify issues and resolve them quickly.
  • Ability to create management level reporting using aggregated profiling and assessment results.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problem areas, identify gaps and issues, and remediate.
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodology.

For positions based in Colorado, the base salary range is $165,000-$190,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
