As a part of AIG’s Life & Retirement (L&R) Financial Planning & Analysis function within Finance, the Business Intelligence Analyst within AIG L&R Finance plays a critical role in measurement and communication of financial performance to all key internal and external stakeholders. This role helps to discover and make sense of financial information amongst depths of data. This position will report to the Manager, L&R Finance Analytics in Shanghai.

In this role, your work, whether it's modeling business scenarios or tracking performance metrics, is used by our leaders to make strategic company decisions. A master juggler working on multiple projects at a time, often times ad hoc, you are focused on the details while finding creative ways to tackle big picture challenges.
We are data metric driven as the data is used to drive the decision making process, as well as drive our business processes. As part of the Financial Planning & Analysis team, you'll work across all finance functions to support the business and technical strategies by processing, analyzing and interpreting large data sets. Using analytical rigor and statistical methods, you will mine data to identify opportunities for the businesses to operate / deploy capital more efficiently and optimize financial performance.

As a Business Intelligence Analyst, you are passionate about using data to solve complex business questions and to drive strategic recommendations. You'll work with the L&R FP&A team in Shanghai, as well as the team in Houston, Texas.

From developing forward-thinking analysis, generating management reports and scaling our automated financial processes, the Finance organization is an important partner and advisor to each of the business and our Executive Leadership team.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Automate data aggregation and analytics process to improve finance and capital management efficiency and accuracy
  • Support and maintain SQL and Oracle Database – structure maintenance and query support
  • Write query language to meet business need
  • Experience with Tableau / or other data visualization tools
  • Build work flow to construct data as needed and creatively visualize data to non-tech audience
  • Collaborate to distill and communicate the essence of your technical work to audiences of all levels and across multiple functional areas, while formulating robust and actionable recommendations
  • Contribute to the development of the analytical frameworks, tools, skills, culture and impact to the overall organization
  • Work with a team of analysts across multiple geographies, supporting the pioneering efforts of machine learning and advanced analytics within Finance
  • Support the initiatives to enhance the customer experience through the implementation of technology enabling tools and defining a data visualization strategy that reduces manual efforts, standardizes processes and streamlines communications that are clear, concise, and action items / storylines. Drive and fully implement the data visualization strategy (utilizing Tableau) into the DNA of the culture
  • Continuous improvement is a huge daily focus of the team. Continuously review (i) existing reporting and (ii) what should be reported to provide additional transparency as business requirements change, and support Life & Retirement Leadership in defining reporting. Eliminate all nonvalue added reporting and manual efforts.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in IT, math, science, technology, finance, economics/econometrics or engineering major, Masters preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in IT, business intelligence or data analytical role
  • Technical experience manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, and high-dimensionality data from various sources, using tools such as Tableau, SQL, VBA, other query tools
  • Data cleansing and aggregation experiences
  • Experience with Tableau
  • Programming experience with structured understanding of software development
  • Knowledge of SQL, know data I/O and aggregation from database. Strong SQL skills include but not limit to query, table create/delete/join/search/update
  • Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements opportunities, include automation efforts
  • Develop procedures and scripts for data migration, including programming views, stored procedures, and functions
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy along with excellent documentation skills
  • Ability to function at a peak level while managing competing priorities
  • Self-motivated, strong initiative, leadership, team-building, change management, organizational skills, and the ability to execute with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent time management skills to meet metrics and timelines for tasks/projects
  • Be an effective listener and communicator with peers, supervisors and stakeholders; follow up on all relevant issues, and ask relevant questions
  • Experience with life and annuity products preferred
