Our Team:

Within Large Molecule Research (LMR) we utilize cutting-edge protein engineering technologies for the discovery and optimization of next-generation protein therapeutics. The team has an impressive track record of patents and publications in high-impact journals. You will be a part of our LMR Data Science team in Frankfurt, which is integrated in our global Digital Biologics Platform (remote options possible). As a global organization, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of computational and AI-based protein engineering to discover innovative new medicines.

Main responsibilities:

• Contribute to the implementation of computational workflows for protein de novo design
• Drive the implementation of novel deep and machine learning-based prediction models for our protein engineering programs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary antibody & NANOBODY® screening and engineering teams to drive effective decision-making by applying computational & data analytics workflows
• Provide support to our industry-leading high-throughput engineering platform by offering expertise in robotic automation, data management, and data engineering
• Depending on your skill set, prior experience, and interests, there are opportunities to contribute to one or several of the above-mentioned areas

About you

We are seeking a passionate Data or Computational Scientist to join our Large Molecule Research department. We offer several opportunities for you to support our digital ambition, and we will make the best use of your skills and interests. It is not required to have expertise in all technical skills listed below. If you have a strong track record in one of the areas in addition to strong Python programming skills (this is required), we are looking forward to your application.

Education and professional Experience

• Ph. D. or M.Sc. degree in a field of computational life sciences, AI/ML or computational protein design (e.g. bioinformatics, computer science, biophysics, computational biology, or life sciences with strong expertise in data science).
• Strong track record in methods for computational protein engineering or machine learning-based protein design

Soft skills

• Passion to collaborate with others, self-development with a focus on scientific know-how, and sharing knowledge
• Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional international teams

Technical skills

• Proficiency in Python and related libraries for machine & deep learning, data science and protein design (required)
• Expertise in computational protein and protein de novo design as well as related methods (e.g. AI-based protein design & protein/protein docking) & software tools (e.g. Rosetta)
• Familiarity with protein structure or sequence featurization/embeddings and protein language models
• Knowledge of antibody/NANOBODY® structure, function & engineering
• Ability to develop, benchmark and apply predictive algorithms for protein property prediction
• Experience in handling, curating and managing large biological data sets and data bases
• Expertise in developing and maintaining data pipelines and automated data workflows
• Comfortable working in cloud and high-performance computational environments

Languages

• Excellent written and oral communication skills (preferably German and English language).
