OVERVIEW

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms can significantly speed up drug discovery and shorten drug development and identification of patients for clinical trials thereby creating better medicines that save lives. AI and Deep Analytics (AIDA) is a critical group in Data and Data Science (DDS) organization at Sanofi R&D focused on applications of AI/ML and Deep Learning (DL) in drug design, multi-omics diseases modeling, drug development, and analysis of outcomes of clinical trials.

Our existing research and development areas include Omics Data Science applied to single-cell RNA sequences, multi-omics data integration, and real word data (RWD); Biologics Drug Design; Natural Language Processing (NLP); Deep Learning-based Imaging and bioimaging for digital pathology and Spatial Biology; digital signal processing (DSP) and machine learning applied to digital health and patient-generated data from wearables. The 30 Scientists in our group come from diverse backgrounds in computational sciences and engineering with deep expertise in AI/ML, deep learning, biostatistics, and algorithms.

We are seeking a Director of Omics Data Science specializing in Bioinformatics and AI-driven Precision Medicine to lead a team within the Omics Data Science (ODS) group. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Director of Omics data science group, will manage a team of AI-driven precision medicine scientists, and will work closely with all Precision Medicine groups at Sanofi R&D.

The position is available in multiple locations (Germany, France, USA), but doesn’t sponsor work authorization and immigration visas.

The responsibilities of the Director of Omics data science will include:

  • Managing a team of omics data scientists with expertise in AI-driven precision medicine
  • Setting up, optimizing, or developing methods to advanced projects from the R&D portfolio
  • Integrating large omics data sets using different approaches (combined matrices, matrix of graph, …) for simultaneous analysis.
  • Applying AI/ML algorithms to tasks such as classification, clustering, prediction, dimensionality reduction, data visualization, relationship discovery...
  • Evaluating external opportunities in the field AI-driven precision medicine as well as setting up and leading external collaborations in the field.
  • Closely interacting with other data scientists as well as scientists in immunology, oncology, and precision medicine groups, in an international context (US, Europe, China).
  • Updating and reporting relevant results to interdisciplinary project teams and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a keen awareness of recent developments in data science and bioinformatics and state-of-the-art of AI/ML/DL algorithms and research results.
  • Actively engaging in evaluation and coordination of both academic and startup collaborations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD degree (and preferably a postdoc) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, and Applied Mathematics
  • +10 years of industry experience with a strong record of accomplishments and project experience in AI-driven precision medicine
  • Strong familiarity with core concepts in Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Statistical Analysis applied to omics data analysis and integration
  • Familiarity with Data Visualization and dimensionality reduction algorithms
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R
  • Ability to develop, benchmark and apply predictive algorithms to identify novel biomarkers, dissect gene/disease relationships and generate hypotheses
  • A change agent with a combination of business, science & technology, and diplomatic skills
