Job Description

The Data Science group within the Precision Medicine and Computational Biology department at Sanofi is building a world-class team and is seeking a highly motivated, independent and proactive data scientist with a strong team player attitude. The successful candidate will have expertise in machine learning and statistical analysis, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to learn and acquire new techniques and approaches. He/she will bring foundational data science to streamline drug discovery process; evaluate novel therapies and develop new methodologies. The candidate will participate in identification and validation of new targets, contribute to early development to support current and future programs in multiple therapeutic areas (immunology, neuroscience, and rare diseases). This exciting role will afford scientists the opportunity to be intimately involved in early discovery research and pre-clinical development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop innovative ML/AI computational approaches and adopt existing state-of-the-art ideas to streamline transition to early development, facilitate discovery of novel targets and drug repositioning.
  • Contribute to the on-going programs with developed stack of tools/approaches and deliver customized study-specific analysis.
  • Work closely with computational scientists and biologists in highly collaborative environment.
  • Lead in silico projects working with scientific teams and champion projects at different stages of discovery and clinical development.
  • Contribute to publications, research and clinical/regulatory documentation.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, physics or another related quantitative field with 3+ years of experience in an academic environment or the private sector (biopharma preferably).
  • Develop and benchmark predictive algorithms to help generate actionable hypothesis.
  • Proficiency in conventional machine learning models (linear regression, SVM, RF, DNN) and ability to bring novel ML concepts into the internal pipelines.
  • Proficiency in analysing and manipulating data with Python/R.
  • Ability to write clean, readable, and scalable code.
  • Working experience with Git and git culture.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and HPC.
  • Strong interest in learning biology and liaise with scientists from multiple therapeutic areas to help define and address biological questions with computational approaches.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and experience with cloud-based computing such as AWS.
  • Knowledge and experience with Docker and dockerization.
  • Hands-on experience with structured and unstructured data (SQL/NoSQL), including document-based and graph databases(cypher).
  • Experience with single cell transcriptomic analysis.
  • Experience with knowledge graphs and network-driven data science.
  • Understanding of basic biological concepts and ability to communicate with non-computational audience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong team player attitude.
