About the Opportunity

In this position, as an experienced and modern Data manager for mRNA Research and Development, you will lead the design and implementation of plans to ensure our Research and Development data is available and maintained for CoE scientists interrogation and for our building of Machine Learning models. You will thus contribute to using data for designing, characterizing, and optimizing mRNA vaccine production from A to Z as part of the Data and Computational Science team in the mRNA CoE. This team brings end to end data integration and advanced analytics (pre-clinical, biomarkers, process development, CMC, clinical) in the mRNA CoE. Deploying and exploiting digital solutions (AI/machine learning, data, analytics) to integrate the full data value chain, extracting actionable information for a move to a full data driven strategy and decision making process, to increase probability of success and to accelerate mRNA vaccines and therapeutics development and launch.

In this role you will develop and implement the strategies and rules concerning the data of the mRNA CoE from Research to Process development and those with its partners according to the FAIR principles:

  • Collaborate with research and development lab heads and scientists to design and implement data management strategy for research projects including data collection, processes for data entry, verification, and validation, and systems for mRNA CoE end to end tracking of components and processes across functions, ensuring the life cycle of the department's data mapping
  • Collaborate with programmer/analysts and research staff to design computer applications for data collection/storage/processing/reporting including writing functional specifications and overseeing the testing of the applications
  • Guarantee the alignment of the new data generated with the FAIR principles
  • Define detailed functional specifications for computer applications
  • Align information technology solutions to match the needs and budgets of research projects; including solutions for access to data for advanced data science (cloud and federated solutions)
  • Create/program/test data validation error conditions to identify potential data problems
  • Create and execute complex database queries and data Extraction, Transformation Loading (ETL)
  • Evaluate existing database management system applications to identify areas for enhancements to improve data quality and the efficiency of data processing
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new data management procedures using the latest technologies
  • Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, project managers and other research staff in designing and executing data quality assurance plans
  • Select and oversee the work of external contractors for Data Management.
  • Assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining standard operating procedures
  • Train and develop the people of the department on the principles of data management

Competencies / Requirements for Position

About you

  • S in scientific or engineering area with training in IT and data management or equivalent with> 3 years of experience in data management, part of which in R&D in the pharmaceutical or vaccine industry
  • Demonstrated understanding of the nature of research and research environment with knowledge of data and standard practices in the pharmaceutical industry and more particularly in R&D
  • Strong Hands on expertise on data management tools (e.g. SQL, Snowflake, airflow…)
  • Knowledge on Master Data Management (MDM) for Machine Learning 
  • Working knowledge of Python and familiar with other scripting languages for data Extraction-Transformation-Loading 
  • Experience in sourcing and supervising data management activities
  • Good knowledge of cloud environments (e.g. AWS)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and ensure work is of high quality
  • Fluency in English (oral and written), knowledge of French is a plus
