Atlassian is looking for a Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer to join our Anti-Abuse team. We are looking for someone passionate about data science and problem solving . You enjoy working with a highly motivated team and are excited to make an impact on the way millions of users use our products in their day-to-day work. You are able to work effectively with a variety of other disciplines across the company.

In this role, you'll get to

Employ behavioural data, insights and ML/AI algorithms to identify abusive content and behaviour that is used to limit functionality for the abusers or suspend their accounts to protect our customers and infrastructure.

Work closely with engineering teams across each of or product departments to identify additional data sources, generalise solutions so they can be shared across products and generate insight for team affected by abuse.

The Anti-Abuse team provides products with services and processes to detect and suspend abusers and their content protecting our customers and non Atlassian users from unwanted content.

We employ a combination of various methods to detect abusers. That may be as simple as pattern matching or comparing fingerprints of content to known meta data. Or may get as complex as combining many signals via rules or machine learning systems to identify abuse behaviour. The collaborative nature of our products and offering a free tier continuously attracts abusers that look for new ways to put them to their own use like sending spam or storing malware.

We cover all the aspects around design, engineering, implementation and operations. We love to work collaborative and use technology that allows us to respond quickly to changing requirements.

On your first day, it'll be great if you have:

• BS in a quantitative subject (statistics, math, engineering, physics or computer science).
• Fluency in data and scripting languages (SQL, Python preferred).
• Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their application to a business problem.
• Ability to communicate and explain data science concepts to diverse audiences, craft a compelling story.
• Agile development mindset, appreciating the benefit of constant iteration and improvement.
• Experience in working close to an engineering team and running machine learning based systems in production.

It would be amazing if you have:

• Experience with systems for abuse or fraud detection.
• Fluency in our machine learning stack AWS Sagemaker, Databricks, Tecton, ReDash, Python and Jupyter notebooks.
