Job Description

You’ll be quarterbacking our News Data & Insights Lab (NDIL)with a primary focus on utilizing data, marketing science, and product analytics to improve customer acquisition, retention, and engagement. Essential Duties

  • Develop and execute the analytics strategy for D2C digital product optimization and marketing initiatives, aligning with the company's overall goals and objectives i.e., keeping subscribers engaged, reaching new readers
  • Lead a small team of skilled analysts and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Engage with business stakeholders, understand business requirements & suggest best-of-breed data solutions
  • Translate business requirements from the stakeholders into equivalent analytics tasks
  • Oversee the building of data products / ML solutions through all phases of development lifecycle, from research, ideate and design through build, test and implement
  • Conduct and guide website analytics, paid search, paid social, SEO, email marketing, customer journey optimization, and omnichannel CRM analytics, including advanced segmentation and persona development
  • Analyze marketing campaign performance, customer segmentation, and conversion funnels to optimize marketing strategies and improve ROI
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for product and marketing initiatives, and deliver regular performance reports to senior leadership
  • Develop new analytical frameworks, data science techniques and predictive analytics to dive deeper into campaign performance, customer behavior and omnichannel opportunities
  • Conduct real-time analytics using AI/ML (in flight optimization) and attribution modeling for impact assessment
  • Set up the learning agenda/experimentation (A/B testing, test/control)
  • Develop best practices for marketing experiment design, including advising on hypothesis generation, sample size, and counter metrics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related field; Master’s degree preferred but not required
  • 6+ years of experience in a quantitative field, specifically in analytics and data science, with a preference for roles related to product analytics, marketing analytics, or related domains
  • 4+ years' professional experience working with a digital newsroom, publishing, or online media company
  • 3+ years of people leadership or informal mentorship of analytical teams
  • Strong working knowledge of marketing science, including frameworks and technologies for media mix modeling and multi-touch attribution
  • Sound knowledge of applied statistics, experimental design, and causal inference
  • Extensive experience in the advertising space and strong working knowledge of digital advertising technologies (DMPs, DSPs SSPs, advertising servers, first party data tools), industry trends, best practices, and capabilities
  • Familiarity with digital web analytics tools, including Omniture, Google Analytics, Parse.ly or Chartbeat
  • Strong proficiency in data-analysis languages (e.g., SQL, Python) and business intelligence systems / visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, orAdobe Analytics)
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake etc.) and modeling complex data transformations with SQL to meet business requirements
  • A strong understanding of and interest in the competitive landscape for digital news media
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate and present analysis findings to stakeholders at all levels. Must be adept at translating analysis into cohesive, concise insights
  • Close attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize in a deadline-driven atmosphere
  • Creativity and strong critical thinking skills
