Staples is a leading office supplies retailer, leveraging data to provide excellent service and products to our customers. Our Data Science team supports our marketing, sales, and merchandising teams with models that analyze customer behavior to drive sales and marketing campaigns.

We are seeking a Data Science Engineer to join our growing team. This unique role combines the problem-solving and modeling of data science with the systems-thinking and technical expertise of engineering. As a Data Science Engineer, you will devote approximately 75% of your time to building and owning models, and the remaining time to engineering tasks to help streamline and optimize our data science processes.

 What you’ll be doing:

• Develop and maintain predictive models to support marketing, sales, and merchandising teams.

• Act as a technical liaison between the Data Science team and the Data Engineering/ML Ops team, communicating data science needs and translating them into technical requirements.

• Collaborate with data scientists and ML Ops engineers to operationalize models, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and properly integrated into the company's data infrastructure.

• Monitor model performance and work with the team to recalibrate or retrain models as necessary.

• Assist in building temporary data pipelines and help define requirements for permanent ones, liaising with the Data Engineering team for smooth handoff.

• Assist in selecting and managing compute resources for model training, optimizing for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

• Develop and improve automation tools to streamline data science processes and reduce overhead for the team.

• Contribute to process improvements, refining the team's use of version control, establishing best practices for model validation, and experimenting with new tools and technologies.

What you bring to the table:

• Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with data science and machine learning libraries.

• Experience working with DataBricks, Azure, and Snowflake or similar technologies.

• Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Airflow.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications :

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related role.

 What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or equivalent work experience

• Experience with resource management and optimization in a data-intensive environment.
