We are hiring a Lead Data Scientist, Economy for our Data and Analytics (DnA) Data Science team. DnA Data Science partners with all of EA's game studios to offer data science products and solutions. As a Lead Data Scientist, Economy, you will report to the Sr. Manager and will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting player behavior data, developing economic models, maintaining in-game economies and providing actionable insights to increase the performance and drive monetization in our games.

Responsibilities

  • You will collaborate with game designers, product managers and analysts to drive the monetization and retention strategies for our games 
  • Utilize player behavior data and statistical analysis to provide recommendations on game features, economy design, live operations, pricing strategies, and user acquisition initiatives 
  • Develop economic models to simulate and forecast the impact of new features, events, price changes, and propose optimizations to improve player engagement and monetization 
  • Model, simulate, and tune complex in-game economies with multiple currencies, progression systems, sinks and sources 
  • Conduct A/B tests and causal analysis to evaluate the impact of different economic strategies 
  • Report on performance, identify issues and suggest ways to optimize game progression systems and reward payout structure 
  • Analyze the impact of in-game updates on player engagement, behavior and revenue generation 
  • Monitor the in-game economy, identify issues, and suggest optimizations 
  • Be on top of the latest market trends, and best practices related to game economics 

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of industry or academic experience in data science, economics or analytics
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D, MS, MA) in Economics, Statistics, Applied Math, Physics, or other technical field 
  • Expertise with scripting languages (Python, R), Proficiency in SQL, and data visualization tools
  • You have a deep understanding of in-game economics, microeconomic principles, behavioral economics, player motivations and preferences 
  • Experience with game design principles, game balancing, retention, and monetization strategies 
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, experimentation, analytical skills, and a passion for creating exceptional player experiences
  • Expertise in optimization methods, statistics, applied econometrics, and machine learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and effectively balance multiple projects in parallel while delivering high quality work 

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES

  • California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
    • $149,150 - $233,500
  • New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
    • $136,000 - $233,500
  • Jersey City, NJ:
    • $171,100 - $233,500
  • Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
    • $136,000 - $190,850
  • Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
    • $136,000 - $218,900

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
