Job Description

As Barclays Data Scientist/Analyst, you will join our expanding Surveillance Development team. You’ll be involved in surveillance build out which will be your chance to showcase your excellent knowledge & hands-on experience in financial industry & big data technologies. As a Data Scientist/Analyst, you’ll work with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers, A.I. Experts, Technical Architects and Project Managers on interdisciplinary projects using analytics to derive structure and insight from raw data.

What will you be doing?

• Working on an Agile lifecycle basis to design, develop, build and deploy new propositions
• Developing and driving actionable intelligence from our data sources / data sets using advanced analytics
• Developing advanced analytics exploiting our rich data assets and provide insights and as they relate to the decision at-hand
• Architecture, designing, and developing analytical model using Big Data Technologies like Hadoop, Spark/Scala, Hive, python, Kafka, and the like
• Engaging with key stakeholders and business partners to understand business objectives and support these objectives through the best use of advanced analytics approaches
• Identifying best analytical techniques, developing the solution, creating a framework for testing the solution, and measuring the incremental value to the business from the solution
• Collaborating with data engineers and infrastructure teams to build compliant, efficient and scalable solutions
• Innovating and driving new ideas, building technology partnerships with our vendors, training and mentoring junior data scientists and data engineers

What we’re looking for:

• Fluency in SQL or other programming languages. Development experience in at least one scripting language (Spark/Scala, Python)
• Experience building and deploying advanced analytics solutions in a large scale environment and experience in financial industry
• Knowledge of Machine learning algorithms like Supervised/unsupervised learning, regression, decision trees, random forests, clustering, and the like

Skills that will help you in the role:

• The ability to quickly understand a business objective, problem solving to create an analytical solution and partner communication
• Experience in data engineering, data modelling for advanced analytics, data processing on cloud, model management and app deployment on cloud is highly desirable
• Experience and understanding of Compliance function and large data sets and distributed computing (Hive/Hadoop)
