Job Description

The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals on research and development of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities in Ansys optics and photonics software products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs research and development on AI/ML algorithms applied to optics and photonics applications including prototype and production code development.
  • Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems.
  • Understands and employs best practices.
  • Performs bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
  • Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
  • Works under the general supervision of a development manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years’ experience or MS.
  • Working experience with AI/ML algorithms and toolkits.
  • Basic knowledge of optics and/or photonics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated success in applying AI/ML concepts in engineering or simulation calculations.
  • Working knowledge of one or more AI/ML toolkits such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, JAX, etc.
  • Programming skills in Python or C++.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.
