The Novelis Digital Center of Excellence Data Science team is seeking a Sr. Lead Data Scientist (Computer Vision) based in Atlanta. The role will report to the Director, Data Science & Insights. This role will spearhead Computer Vision projects for different plants within Novelis. The role will be responsible for owning and advancing the development of Computer Vision models for our current and future use cases. In this subject matter expert role, you will play a critical part in shaping the direction of our Computer Vision initiatives and serving as the go-to expert for all things related to Computer Vision.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and enhance Computer Vision models for use cases, ensuring high performance, accuracy, and efficiency 
  • Act as the subject matter expert in Computer Vision, providing technical insights and expertise to internal teams and stakeholders 
  • Develop standards and best practices for Computer Vision in an industrial setting 
  • Apply latest advancements in Computer Vision and Deep Learning to develop, improve our models and methodologies 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate Computer Vision capabilities into various products and services to make the solutions sustainable and scalable 
  • Lead the research and evaluation of new Computer Vision techniques and technologies, proposing innovative solutions to address business needs 
  • Collaborate with data engineers and software developers to ensure the successful deployment and integration of CV models into our systems 
  • Conduct experiments to test and validate the performance of CV models, identifying areas for improvement and optimization 
  • Provide technical guidance to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree with a focus on computer vision and machine learning 
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in developing and deploying Computer Vision models in an enterprise setting 
  • Well versed with PyTorch (or TensorFlow), and a strong understanding of deep learning principles 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and deploying Computer Vision models, utilizing both traditional (OpenCV) and Deep Learning-based approaches 
  • Proficiency in Python programming language 
  • Experience with GPU acceleration and cloud computing for large-scale training and inference 
  • Proven ability to work independently, drive results in a fast-paced environment and work across regions
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making 
  • Effective communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences 
  • The role requires 20-25% travel within the US and sometimes internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Computer Vision in a manufacturing, specifically metals manufacturing 
  • Understanding of the various resources from Microsoft Azure and ability to design an end-to-end Computer Vision application
  • Proven track record of research excellence demonstrated through publications in top conferences such as NIPS, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, ICML, AAAI or similar conferences 
  • Experience in building frontend solutions using ReactJS or NextJS 
  • Understanding of operational technology (OT) architectures and Industry 4.0
