Program Description

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is looking for talented leaders to add to its global leadership depth and play a role in the current and future success of the organization. The Global Technology Co-op/Intern Program provides students with practical work experience in one of many diverse areas of Global Technology. The program allows the organization to build a pipeline of candidates for potential future permanent openings, and the students gain a better understanding of the various job opportunities available throughout Goodyear.

Ideally, successful Global Technology co-ops and interns have an opportunity to convert to full time Goodyear associates after graduation.

In addition to challenging, engaging and interesting work assignments, students have the opportunity to meet and interact with students from other universities at work and outside of work. Tours of Goodyear facilities are arranged to help students learn more about the business. Goodyear leaders make presentations to help students begin to think about significant business issues and career options. Students even have the opportunity to speak with the Goodyear Senior Leadership Team.

Function Overview and Project Task/Responsibilities

The Performance Science team supports product development, technology development, and innovation technology projects in the performance areas of Vehicle Dynamics, Vibration Mechanics, and Tire Mechanics. The team utilizes modeling, simulations, test development, and performance investigations to support our internal development as well as external customers. Project tasks and responsibilities would relate to the following initiatives:

  • Develop image processing and machine learning algorithms to analyze optical data for feature extraction, classification, and image enhancement. These capabilities can be leveraged in efforts such as the automation for our cut section analysis & shearography processes, field treadwear assessments, advancement of FP processing tools, high speed video and thermography applications and within competitor benchmarking.
  • Work closely with engineers to create user interfaces that will supply automated data and report generation.
  • Provide technical support to other engineers in optical designs and image processing.
  • Design, develop, and test optical test systems per specifications and requirements.
  • Document and communicate the progression of projects in a detailed and organized manner.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or related field required.

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required
  • Prior engineering co-op/internship experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical experience in relevant area(s)
