Program Description

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is looking for talented leaders to significantly strengthen its global leadership depth and play an integral role in the current and future success of the organization. The Global Technology Co-op/Intern Program provides students with practical work experience in one of many diverse areas of Global Technology. The program allows the organization to build a pipeline of candidates for future permanent openings, and the students gain a better understanding of the various job opportunities available throughout Goodyear.

Ideally, many of the Global Technology co-ops and interns become permanent Goodyear associates after graduation.

In addition to challenging, engaging and interesting work assignments, students have the opportunity to meet and interact with students from other universities at work and outside of work. Tours of Goodyear facilities are arranged to help students learn more about the business. Goodyear leaders make presentations to help students begin to think about significant business issues and career options. Students even have the opportunity to speak with the Goodyear Senior Leadership Team.

Function Overview and Project Task/Responsibilities

The Performance Science team supports product development, technology development, and innovation technology projects in the performance areas of Vehicle Dynamics, Vibration Mechanics, and Tire Mechanics. The team utilizes modeling, simulations, test development, and performance investigations to support our internal development as well as external customers. Project tasks and responsibilities would relate to the following initiatives:

• Support Product Development programs through assessment/benchmarking of the performance of tire/vehicle systems through modeling, testing and simulation.
• Support Technology Development programs through development of new tire/vehicle test and simulation capabilities, enhancement of our predictive technologies using the latest data analysis tools in conjunction with up-to-date data science methods.
• Investigate tire/vehicle performance assessment process for effectiveness and efficiency in both product or technology release decisions and new standards
• Cooperate with CAE, data science and testing teams on lab testing, instrumented vehicle testing, and tire/vehicle modeling and simulation.

Requirements

Currently accepted into or pursuing a graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, or any other relevant area.

• Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required
• Incoming first year or higher in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD)
• Prior engineering co-op/internship experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
• Demonstrated technical experience in relevant area(s)
