Job Description

You will have the opportunity to join the Tire & Performance Science department, in Life Cycle Mechanics team, to support tire product and technology development, product development through tire mechanics investigation, modeling and analysis.

Furthermore, the position will support initiatives for efficiency and productivity improvements in tire development process and will be focused on driving creation of innovative technologies with computer vision and image processing.

The position reports to the chief engineer of Life Cycle Mechanics group and is located in Luxembourg.

On this position you will:

  • Support product development programs through assessment/benchmarking of the performance of tire/vehicle systems through computer vision and image/video analysis.
  • Support technology development programs through development of new tire/vehicle test, tire characterization methods and predictive capabilities, enhancement of our existing technologies using the latest data analysis tools in conjunction with up-to-date data science methods.
  • Support product development teams through root cause analysis and countermeasure assessment for specific problems related to tire wear, durability, heat transfer, traction/braking and energy consumption, through hands-on investigation and advanced or experimental evaluation methods.
  • Further develop the creativity and innovation capacity of the team with a focus on virtual tire development. 
  • Cooperate with vehicle manufacturers, external companies and universities to shape our virtual tire development process for efficiency, quality and robustness.
  • Cooperate with FEA, data science, IT and testing teams to develop lab testing (including compound, fiber and composite testing), vehicle testing, tire modeling and simulation capabilities.
  • Cooperate with product development teams and provide recommendations for tire characteristics & tire design tuning to meet tire/vehicle performance objectives.

To join our team you will need: 

Education:

The candidate must have completed a Master’s degree in Engineering (Science in information and communication is preferred). A PhD is an asset

Languages:

Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience inside automotive/tire industry.
  • Experience in computer vision, image analysis 
  • Experience in neural networks method
  • Experience in data science and Machine learning 
  • Experience with data acquisition & analysis
  • Experience with experimental test design and experimental root cause analysis.
  • Working knowledge of tire mechanics and tire performance.
  • Working knowledge of tire characteristics and material properties (e.g. rubber, composite) and their link to tire/vehicle performance tributes such as tire wear and durability.
  • Knowledge of rubber material characteristics and properties including friction.
  • Knowledge of FEA methods and tire performance analysis.
  • Knowledge of experimental methods and tire/vehicle performance prediction tools.
  • Experience with tire testing and prototype tire evaluation is an asset.
  • Background in tire mechanics, contact mechanics, 
  • Experience with tire modeling FEA , MF-Tire, CD-Tire, F-Tire is an asset.
  • Experience in Matlab, SQL, Python , C++
