Description:

We are looking for an experienced data scientist to support our Finance Analytics team. The team is responsible for developing predictive and prescriptive analytic solutions to add value to the finance function. 

Ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting data science initiatives. You are a self-starter who will take ownership of your projects and deliver high-quality data-driven analytics solutions. You are adept at solving diverse business problems by utilizing a variety of different tools, strategies, algorithms and programming languages. Ideal candidate for this role can relate data science efforts to creating business value and solving real world problems. They are experienced in collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing large sets of data to turn information into insights using multiple platforms. The data scientist should be able to develop prototypes and proof of concepts for the selected solutions. They should be able to evaluate various approaches/algorithms and make a recommendation tailored to each project. 

Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Work with business partners to understand requirements, design and build effective solutions for complex business problems that may be loosely defined
  • Integrate data from multiple sources and build robust, cross-functional data assets to support analytics. 
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of the data and data gathering techniques, determine materiality of data issues and challenges, disposition and recommend path forward.
  • Perform multivariate and exploratory data analysis and communicate key findings to colleagues and business partners
  • Utilize statistics and machine learning to build predictive models and tools supporting business initiatives
  • Work closely with the team to perform complex analytics and data preparation tasks including feature engineering and brainstorming potential data sources, internal and external, that may contain predictive variables. 
  • Communicate and present findings, including visualizations, to business partners to ensure successful integration of projects into business process. Proactively follow up on any issues that were raised during presentations. 
  • Provide training guidance and assistance to colleagues.
  • Analyze data, draw meaningful conclusions, and assist in developing solutions to help drive profitability and/or growth.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Software Engineering or related educational background
  • Experience in Python or R
  • Excellent data analysis and advanced data manipulation techniques using SQL
  • 4+ years data science related experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to articulate an understanding of their work products.
  • Experience with predictive modeling and working with data scientists a plus
  • Data visualization tool experience
  • Business experience and knowledge of P&C industry is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud based technology a plus
  • Excellent working knowledge of relational databases
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly and constantly changing stakeholder requirements.
  • Quick to learn, ability to prioritise activities and responsive to the needs of the business.
  • Be able to communicate and present on complex technical concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences
