Successful candidates who are newly hired to BAE Systems are eligible to receive a sign on bonus of $5,000. Details of this sign on bonus will be provided in the offer letter. Relocation is available for qualified candidates. DC3 positions are hybrid roles. You will be on-site for the first 2-3 weeks for equipment issue, access to resources, and familiarization. After that initial on-site time, anticipate being on-site 3 days per week with flexibility. Candidates need to be located local to the worksite, but will be able to participate in hybrid remote work.

BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to design, develop, build, analyze, evaluate and install database management systems to include database modeling and design, relational database architecture, metadata and repository creation and configuration management. Apply your technical and professional skillsets to prepare system requirements, source analysis and process analyses and design throughout the database implementation. Candidates will comply with government directives, standards, guidelines, and criteria concerning software and systems safety. You will work across several areas to identify user needs and specify solutions in the problem domain while continuing to support the architecture and design process. This is a senior level position; therefore candidates may be assigned responsibility for the management teams and associated staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Uses data mapping, data mining, and data transformational analysis tools to design and develop databases.
  • Determines data storage and optimum storage requirements.
  • Prepares system requirements, source analysis, process analyses, and design throughout the database implementation.
  • Evaluates, sizes, and selects technology components, such as software, hardware, and networking capabilities, for database management systems and application databases.
  • Writes and tunes SQL queries for performance and scalability.
  • Implements comprehensive backup and database replication solutions.
  • Manipulates data and data flows for existing and new systems performing ETL, analytical support, and maintenance of critical data.
  • Provides support in the areas of data extraction, transformation and load (ETL), data mapping, analytical support, operational support, database support, and maintenance support of data and associated systems.
  • Research, design, develop, or modify enterprise-wide systems or application software—researches emerging technologies to determine their impact on application execution.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems and provide support for the ETL process.
  • Prepares reports on analyses, findings, and project progress.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • This position requires the successful candidate have an active Top Secret clearance with SCI and CI Polygraph. The criteria for obtaining and holding a clearance are driven by US government requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or another related discipline, and 3+ years of relevant experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or another related discipline, and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • In-depth experience conducting data analysis and parsing
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of relational databases and non-relational data stores, including Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and large-scale distributed systems (e.g., Hadoop)
  • Maintains an ability to conduct investigations and tests of considerable complexity
  • Possesses extensive experience in developing complex data flows or making significant enhancements to existing pipelines
  • Experience building and maintaining data flows in NiFi or Pentaho
  • Experience with the following languages: Java/J2EE, C, C++, SQL, XML, XQuery, XPath, Ruby on Rails, HTML/XHTML, CSS, Python, Shell Scripting, JSON
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of server operating systems; Windows, Linux, Distributed Computing, Blade Centers, and cloud infrastructure
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to comprehend database methodologies
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal, organizational, writing, communications; has strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving, including briefing, and team-building skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • IBM Certified Solution Developer or equivalent
  • Certified Data Management Professional - Data Management (CDP-DM)
  • Oracle Certified Associate or Oracle9i Database Administrator (OCA)
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with Cloud technologies, resources, and tools
