Job Description

BAE Systems in hiring a Data Scientist in San Diego, CA to support our Ship Repair business. The Planning Organization in San Diego Ship Repair is a trusted business partner delivering information and innovative solutions for decision-making in order to deliver quality products and capabilities to our customers and, ultimately, the warfighter. The Planning team plans, controls, and reports program performance relating to cost and schedule according to the Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with planning team, project teams, operation leaders, and other leaders to support process improvements and business objectives
  • Build advanced analytics including using industry 4.0 methods to improve ship repair processes
  • Develop and improve processes and systems to enhance and expand data analytics and reporting capabilities
  • Build and advance data models and data mining to deliver business insights to support leadership decision-making
  • Apply advanced analytical tools and data science techniques to identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs and improve on-time delivery across projects
  • Model Ship Repair processes using advanced statistical methods to minimize execution costs while maintaining schedule performance and quality standard
  • Utilize relational databases (SQL), statistical analysis, visualization (Power BI and DAX language), general-purpose programing (Python, R), Microsoft Excel (Power Query- Power Pivots- VBA Macro), and Microsoft Access

Salary Range: $73,370 - $124,740

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM areas and 2 years of experience or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Data Analytics in Manufacturing, Production, Industrial, Construction, or similar environment
  • Proficient in the following tools or equivalent: databases (SQL), statistical analysis (SAS, SPSS, Minitab), data visualization (Power BI, Tableau, DAX language), and general-purpose programing (Python, R)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (Power Query, Power Pivots, VBA Macro)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Access

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Data Science or Analytics a plus
  • Experience in Defense Contracting or Ship Repair a plus
  • Experience in ML/AI methods a plus
  • Experience in time series analysis, multivariate models, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, inferential statistics, and/or causal analysis a plus
