As an intern, you will participate in our nationwide Internship & Co-Op Program, LEAP, where you will have the opportunity to Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. This internship is located at our Combat Missions Systems facility in Fridley (Minneapolis), MN. For the Summer 2023 Internship, you will work a full-time 40 hours/week during the Summer (May-Aug) on a 9/80 schedule that allows every other Friday off. Opportunities may be available to continue working part-time during the academic year. Relocation will not be offered. Housing is not provided.

BAE Systems, Inc. is seeking highly motivated and driven Software or Computer Engineering Interns to work with a talented team supporting the development, test, integration and verification of modern combat vehicles.

As a team member, your daily tasks may include:

  • Create, plan, and perform a variety of software analysis, design, development, code, documentation, integration, test and product assurance tasks
  • Contribute to the development of engineering design models and develops programs to enhance, implement and support project/system functionality for the assigned technical effort
  • Participate in software requirements, design, and code reviews
  • Perform hands-on systems integration and test of complex electronic and electro-mechanical systems in both software labs and on tactical military hardware or vehicles.
  • Develop and execute test cases, test scripts, test plans, and test scenarios for all applicable requirements for new software releases in software lab environment and on tactical vehicle
  • Ensure technical outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that all technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met
  • Perform non-routine fault isolation, diagnosis and repair of test and tactical systems
  • Prepare test reports summarizing test results including anomalies, systems errors, and configuration changes

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Pursuing a degree in a STEM discipline (Preferred: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering
  • Completed sophomore year, with minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Programming experience in one of the following: C, C#, C++, Java, Ada, Python
  • Basis knowledge of software development fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Hands-on experience with integration and troubleshooting technical issues with electronic systems, including use of common commercial test equipment such as CAN bus analyzers, Network analyzers, data acquisition systems
  • Experience with various protocols: J1939, CAN, Ethernet, Serial, 1553
  • Experience with software development environments, version control, and issue tracking tools
  • Experience with Linux
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems
  • Cybersecurity Certification: Security+, CSSLP, CISSP
  • Military experience is highly valued
