  • Develop in-silico and data driven models to support combination products and associated drug product packaging throughout their lifecycle.
  • Apply core engineering principles: structural, fluid, biomechanical, and multi-physics theory to develop novel first-principles and mechanistic computational models addressing combination products.
  • Formulate constitutive and governing equations describing key system characteristics / phenomena and design questions.
  • Build supervised and unsupervised algorithms to provide important insights across Amgen’s Combination Product operations.
  • Develop and debug in-silico models in commercial and proprietary software and deploy models to internal users via the enterprise modeling infrastructure
  • Ensure that qualification parameters are met for in-silico modeling performance requirements per the intended use.
  • Partner with multi-discipline data analytics teams to advance data analytics tools/features to answer important business questions against their well-defined requirements.
  • Transform ambiguous business and technical inquiries into measurable and impactful projects.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally with the test method and device development teams in the data collection and analytics required for model qualification.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally with teams of Manufacturing, development, Quality, and commercial leads.
  • Deliver training to individuals in the operation and maintenance of modeling assets.
  • Provide support for investigations as well as development of new processes required to improve combination product manufacturing operations (for quality, reliability, new product introduction, cost saving).
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and provide input to the leadership teams regarding trend and failure investigation and process improvements.
  • Serve as technical lead on projects and mentor engineers and data scientists.
  • Supply ideas, establish standard processes, and follow trends in industry and academia.
  • Develop and maintain coordinated timelines collecting appropriate multi-functional details and work which are aligned with the functional and project deliverables
  • Proactively identify issues and/or risks and develop mitigation options to resolve or call out efficiently.

The position may require approximately 10% travel to international locations assisting our development partners during implementation of modeling assets into their processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate degree OR
  • Master's Degree and 3 years of Engineering experience OR
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of Engineering experience OR
  • Associate's degree and 10 years of Engineering experience OR
  • High school diploma/GED and 12 years of Engineering experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, Chemical or Biomedical engineering.
  • Experience with FEA and CFD modeling techniques for structural and fluid dynamics using commercial simulation software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, COMSOL, and ABAQUS.
  • Experience in modeling of mechanical, biochemical, and biomechanical systems.
  • Fluency in data analytic techniques vital for data analyses.
  • Experience working with healthcare data.
  • Experience with combination products and device regulatory requirements and medical device development and engineering.
  • Demonstrable ability to work on multiple projects and collaborate with many multi-functional teams simultaneously.
  • Experience with mathematical / first principles modeling and numerical techniques for model calibration and uncertainty quantification such as Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Proven ability to translate sophisticated data sets and technical challenges into simple business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring structure to sophisticated problems, pragmatic scoping & problem-solving approach.
  • Understanding of the six-sigma process, utilizing statistical software packages such as Minitab and/or JMP to formulate and tackle statistical problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills together with proven ability to thrive in multi-functional teams.
  • Excellent technical writing, data visualization and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, agile team.
  • Experience with one or more of general-purpose programming languages
  • Evidence of working independently, scientific independence and accomplishments
