RTX Technology Research Center’s Physical Sciences Department is seeking an innovative physical metallurgist with expertise in high temperature metals including high entropy alloys (HEAs), refractory alloys and/or nickel-based superalloys. The ideal candidate will be an integral member of dynamic teams focused on creating and advancing novel materials and manufacturing technologies for both aerospace and defense applications. This role will support the expansion and implementation of high entropy alloys as a disruptive technology across the corporation, including marketing new concepts, securing research funding, and generating intellectual property related to high temperature alloys.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering, or related field and 10+ years of related work experience
  • Expertise in high temperature alloy systems commonly used in aerospace and defense applications, including Ni-based superalloys, refractory alloys, or high entropy alloys
  • Deep understanding of physical metallurgy and structure-processing-property relationships as applied to aerospace alloys
  • Proven ability to execute multi-disciplinary projects and provide timely deliverables to customers and stakeholders
  • Capable of operating independently while also effectively working with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds in a highly collaborative environment
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of related work experience
  • Experience with other aerospace material systems, such as light alloys, high temperature ceramics, or ceramic matrix composites
  • Working knowledge of the high temperature alloy supply chain environment
  • Experience in writing and reviewing white papers and proposals is highly desirable
  • Established track record of publications or intellectual property in high temperature materials
  • Experience in applying data science tools and approaches to new material discovery

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years

prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited

by local laws/regulations.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
