Machine Learning Scientist

Gurugram, Haryana, India

This role is under the Machine Learning Team (part of the Pricing, Analytics, and Models team) which works with internal and external stakeholders to deliver leading-edge advanced analytical insights to benefit the businesses of AXA XL.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Support the gathering and validation of data required.
  • Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate, and extract data for building modeling data.
  • Discover business insights in data using exploratory data analysis.
  • Perform statistical analyses of internal and external data to elicit insights into risk which will form the basis of decision-support tools.
  • Build project methodology; specify statistical models/analysis approach to be used.
  • Work closely with pricing actuaries, underwriters, and other stakeholders to communicate and receive feedback on insights arising from statistical analyses and adapt analyses accordingly.
  • Work with IT to implement models and create architecture to support data collection and validation.

This role will report to the Head of Machine Learning, Strategic Analytics

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Masters in statistics, mathematics, economics, or another quantitative field.
  • Experience in insurance preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of R, Python, or similar (Experience in Azure Databricks is a plus).
  • Ability to work with incomplete and messy data to extract useful information.
  • Understanding of core analytical techniques like Cluster & Factor Analysis, Regression, Logistic Regression, GLMs, CART/CHAID/Decision Trees, Data Mining, Machine Learning Algorithms, Sampling Techniques, Design of Experiments, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; can effectively convey complex concepts to non-analytical people.
  • Able to both work well self-directly and collaborate with people from multiple functions
  • Internally driven and intrinsic motivation.
  • Possesses natural curiosity and thinks outside the box
  • Outstanding execution skills.
