In this unique global role, you will be part of the CDO office within the Product & Platform organization and responsible for Enterprise Data Architecture, Data Modeling, Data Engineering, Data Governance, Data Quality, and Insights using AI/ML for Western Union. This group works across business groups or multiple domains in Western Union e.g., Customer, Agents, Risk & Payments, Fraud, Compliance, Operations, Marketing, etc.

Role Responsibilities

  • In this role, the individual will partner with stakeholders in Cross-functional Engineering, Product and, Business Organizations for Digital Risk & Payment, Digital Channels, Compliance, Operations, Marketing, Fraud, etc. to design and implement complex accost-effective solutions and programs that help meet organizational & domain data needs which is time sensitive and helps to provide better customer experience for Western Union business.
  • The role will also be responsible for driving innovation, and transformation initiatives that drive value through process simplification, automation, and implementing new products and services.
  • This role will also contribute to one of the enterprise scale initiatives e.g. Next Gen Pricing and Infrastructure modernization (on-prem to AWS) as an individual contributor or engineering lead.
  • This role will have a dual reporting structure with a solid line to Chief Data Architect / Head of Data Engineering and Architect and a dotted line into Site Leader, India.
  • This critical and strategic role will lead and provide oversight to multiple Agile teams of Western Union/Vendors.
  • The role will influence over $15M in third-party spending to drive Data Engineering, Cloud Migration, Cloud Support, etc.
  • This role will also provide oversight on data engineering and analytics teams, which includes identifying and monitoring risks, providing resolutions, developing mitigation strategies, and driving process improvements, and innovation.
  • One of the critical aspects of the role is to manage and provide coaching, mentoring, and career planning to people managers, architects, and all the other engineering team members to build a healthy and motivated team environment to deliver high-quality engineering.
  • The individual demonstrates an enterprise mindset, passion for customers, lean-agile leadership, and is an innovation enabler.
  • The position should help build a work environment that attracts the best talent and sponsor committees that conduct technical and employee engagement events at the site level.
  • This role will also Provide thought leadership in building innovation factories and Data Engineering excellence in India.
  • This position should help manage vendor contracts and onboarding/offboarding of the vendor teams for engineering work and PoCs.

Role Requirements

  • People Leadership – Responsible for Recruitment, Team Engagement, Coaching, and Mentoring, Defining Goals, Performance Management, Recognition, and Defining and executing upskilling programs.
  • Engineering Leadership & Deliveries – Involvement in Planning, Design, Architecture, Technical Reviews, and Releases phases; removing impediments in execution; Contract/vendor management.
  • Strategy and Roadmap definition – Collaborate with the Head of Data Engineering and Architecture and peers for strategy and roadmap definition of the teams. Participate in budget discussions at a group level to do multi-year planning.
  • Communication and Stakeholder management – Partner with multiple stakeholders across disciplines, promote healthy collaboration across teams, identify and break silos, resolve conflicts and drive consensus, and drive common team goals and vision.
  • Reporting and Risk Management
  • Innovation (Evaluating and implementing innovative engineering practices, tools, and technologies), Waste Reduction through the lean agile process, etc.
  • Site-operations support – Sponsor committees, Lead and participate in site-level activities.
  • People Manager-Manage teams of Engineering Managers, Solution Architects, and Engineers and be responsible for technical deliveries for multiple domains and data engineering teams in Pune.
  • Leadership-Be local representative of executives/ leaders and help in decision making and planning team goals and roadmap. Incorporate the latest technology trends and services at WU. Program budgeting and managing financial targets and goals.
  • Management and Planning-Lead and Mentor Engineering Managers, architects, and team members. Plan technical deliveries by working with functional and technical leadership. Plan knowledge management / Skill development, career planning for engineering resources,
  • Business Impact-Plan and track Engineering projects to make sure high-quality deliveries are done and business end users get timely deliveries.
  • Customer Focus-Partner with Product Management and business teams to build and enhance platforms that deliver excellent customer experience. Track and help resolve technical issues which impact customer experience. Ensure superior uptime and improve product quality.
