Job Description

Collaborates with business partners to develop predictive analytic solutions and/or tools e.g., generative AI that enable data-driven strategic decision-making and productivity enhancements. Utilizes current and emerging data science techniques to manipulate large structured and unstructured data sets, identify patterns in raw data, and develop models to predict the likelihood of a future outcome and/or to optimize business solutions. This level reflects expert knowledge of predictive analytics techniques, and intermediate application of applying those techniques to business issues. May support oversight on certain activities of lower-level Data Science staff; may have direct management responsibilities. Provides mentorship/guidance to lower-level staff. Consults as a subject matter expert.

Responsibilities:

  • Subject Matter Expert. Applies expert knowledge of sophisticated analytics techniques to manipulate large structured and unstructured data sets to generate insights to inform business decisions.
  • Leverages knowledge to create/design customized solutions to meet specific client/ business needs. Expert knowledge of predictive toolset; expert resource for tool development; drives innovation in the application and development of tools and practices. Identifies new strategic opportunities for use of theoretical methods and tools.
  • Applies forward-looking thinking to inform methodological advancement. Creation or researching novel or cutting-edge techniques for insurance applications.

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of asset management business, in particular Fixed Income and Alternatives use cases across the investment and execution processes. Deep understanding of operations and processes to influence outcomes. Deep knowledge of business drivers and market context. Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues.
  • Has deep understanding and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline across Machine Learning, quantitative modeling, large language models and deep knowledge of other disciplines within the function.
  • Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Consults as a subject matter expert for highly technical projects that address SBU department objectives. Delegates and oversees their implementation by data science teams.
  • Enables the business to make clear trade-offs between and among choices, with a reasonable view into likely outcomes.
  • Shapes the data science community within the organization and leads cross-functional working groups.
  • Responsible for highly technically complex projects that drive change across the organization. Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives. Guides aspects of project design as a subject matter expert for the team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to give effective training and presentations to all levels of the organization. Exchanges ideas and conveys complex information clearly and concisely, verbally, visually, and in writing, consistent with the audiences and stakeholders with which they interact up to and including SBU/Corp Dept leadership.
  • Ability to establish and build relationships within and outside the aligned functional area or SBU. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups. Interacts with senior executives.
  • PhD., Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or other relevant field of study.
  • Minimum of 8 yrs. of experience with a Ph.D.,
  • Minimum of 10 yrs. of experience with a Master's,
  • Minimum of 14 yrs. of experience with a Bachelor's.

  • Schedule: Full-Time
  • Minimum Salary: 178100.00
  • Maximum Salary: 234300.00

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
