Job Description

The Product Design and Modeling Department of Global Retail Markets has three openings for Director II, Data Science to lead the Demand Modeling teams focused on US Personal Lines, US Business Lines, and East and West Demand Modeling. The Demand Modeling team builds complex demand models (customer retention, conversion, price elasticity, and lifetime value) for all lines of business and the 15 countries GRM operates in. The Director II will manage model development and application, developing a framework for incorporating demand models into pricing and product design, and tackling challenging strategic questions related to customer demand and lifetime value. Each Director will manage a team of 4-5.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and deploy complex retention, conversion, and price elasticity models across various lines of business and markets
  • Develop tools and models necessary to increase accuracy of new program launch calibration
  • Partner with various teams to advance strategic priorities (e.g., digital user experience, telematics products, rating plan design)
  • Generate data-driven answers to open-ended strategic questions related to customer demand (e.g., price presentation, endorsement pricing, capping strategy)
  • Develop methodology for accurately projecting financial impacts of pricing actions
  • Adjust pricing factors to account for customer lifetime value
  • Use competitor price data to improve price elasticity models and projection tools
  • Share research with other departments to improve demand-related decision making throughout the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field. Insurance designations or Masters/PhD desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of all casualty actuarial techniques, standards, and assumptions. Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, Emblem) highly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance operations and the procedures of Financial, Underwriting, Claims, Statistical, Information Technology, Legal, and Sales departments.
  • High-level knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (e.g., SQL) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to give effective training and presentations to senior management and other groups.
  • Ability to lead and get work done through others. Ability to coach and develop staff members.
