Job Description

Parsons is seeking a Data Scientist Specialist with expertise in infectious diseases to join our team in developing and enhancing a cutting-edge biosurveillance platform. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data science, experience in agile development methodologies, and expertise in nowcasting models and forecasting techniques. As a Data Scientist Specialist, you will play a critical role in the development of new features, improvement of nowcasting models, and designing advanced forecasting techniques, ultimately contributing to the advancement of our biosurveillance platform.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Participate in the development of new features and enhancements for the biosurveillance platform, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to agile development methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data input/outputs, metrics, and development storyboards for new features and improvements.
  • Create and improve nowcasting models to handle common real-world data defects, ensuring accurate and reliable predictions for infectious disease biosurveillance efforts.
  • Develop and test novel inference methods for high-dimensional problems with applications to transmission model fitting, enhancing the platform's ability to analyze complex data.
  • Design and test improved forecasting ensembling techniques, incorporating cutting-edge methodologies to advance the platform's predictive capabilities.
  • Generate test data or access data through Data Use Agreements (DUAs) to validate new features and improvements, ensuring that they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Apply resources effectively to adapt technology to the biosurveillance platform, working closely with the engineering and development teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Stay current with the latest developments in infectious disease research, data science techniques, and industry best practices to continuously improve the platform.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in data science, epidemiology, public health, or a related field with a focus on infectious diseases.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data science, with a focus on infectious disease research and biosurveillance applications.
  • Proven experience in developing and enhancing software solutions using agile development methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of nowcasting models, high-dimensional inference methods, and forecasting ensembling techniques.
  • Experience working with complex data sets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to define data input/outputs, metrics, and development storyboards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Salary Range: 

$81,500.00 – $142,600.00
