This Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced manager to lead our Data Annotation Team specializing in medical terminology. As the manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of annotated data used in various healthcare applications and research projects. You will also drive the roadmap for the tooling your team and infrastructure your team requires with strong focus on scalability and velocity. Your expertise in medical terminologies, team leadership, and data annotation methodologies will be essential to drive the success of our projects and contribute to advancements in healthcare. 

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage a team of data annotators specialized in medical terminology.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to team members, ensuring their professional growth and development.Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages knowledge sharing and innovation.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Data Annotation Strategy and Execution:

  • Develop and implement data annotation strategies and workflows to ensure accuracy and consistency in the annotation process with strong focus on scalability and velocity.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders, including data scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts, to define annotation requirements and guidelines.
  • Oversee the annotation process, ensuring adherence to quality standards and project timelines.
  • Monitor and analyze annotation metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Establish quality assurance procedures to validate the accuracy and completeness of annotated data.
  • Conduct regular audits and checks to identify and address annotation errors or inconsistencies.
  • Stay current with the latest medical terminology, coding systems, and industry regulations to ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure data security and privacy protocols are followed throughout the annotation process.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, researchers, and software engineers, to understand project requirements and provide insights based on annotated data.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on project progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in medical terminologies, providing guidance and support to project teams when needed.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to data annotation and medical terminology.

Key Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Health Informatics, Medical Terminology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related discipline). An MD or PhD degree is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in data annotation, preferably in the healthcare or medical domain.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, including coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, SNOMED CT) and industry standards (e.g., LOINC, RxNorm, CPT).
  • 5+ years+ experience with applicable standards specifications (e.g., FHIR, C-CDA), organizations (e.g.HL7), and tools (e.g., VSAC) is a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding and appreciation for how machine learning and NLP technologies can transform data annotation
  • Experience with terminologies, value sets, and terminology mappings.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Experience in medical coding and charge posting in a US healthcare setting.
  • AAPC Certified Medical coder with CPC certification.
  • Ability to create, review and modify SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and experience implementing appropriate safeguards.
  • Familiarity with data annotation tools, machine learning algorithms, and natural language processing techniques.

  • The base pay for this position is $140,000 to $172,000. The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target. Pay is based on several factors including location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles are eligible for additional compensation such as incentive pay and stock options
