We are looking for a Machine Learning/Data Science Intern to join our team. Do you have the following skills?

This is a temporary part-time role not to exceed 14 weeks.

The Machine Learning/Data Science Intern will:

• Demonstrate interest in exploratory data analysis and data visualization of astronaut photography metadata.
• Project involves reading data from a database and then creating interesting, informative, and visually appealing dashboards/storymaps from that data.
• Intern will have the opportunity to generate insights from the data and creatively share their findings, eventually publishing their dashboard/storymap to the Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth webpage.
• Develop machine learning model to label astronaut photos with specific features of interest using deep learning for object detection.
• Work through entire machine learning pipeline from data gathering to prediction.
• Advanced intern experience may conduct a viability study or begin gathering training data for natural language processing tasks involving astronaut photography, such as automated image captioning.
• Perform other duties required.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

• Pursuing or recent grad of STEM degree (BS or MS), Python, data science, data visualization, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, strong communication skills, basic knowledge of databases and database languages (SQL), analytical skills. GIS or geoscience interests are a plus.
• Completed at least 60 credit hours.
• Minimum of a 2.8 GPA.

Requisition Preferences:

• Computational science or machine learning.
