About High Tech High

Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High (“HTH”) opened in September 2000 as a small public project-based charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH has evolved into an integrated network of sixteen charter schools serving approximately 6,500 students in grades K-12 across four San Diego County campuses (Point Loma, Clairemont, North County, and Chula Vista). The HTH organization also includes a comprehensive adult learning environment including a Teacher Credentialing Program and the High Tech High Graduate School of Education, offering professional development opportunities serving national and international educators.

Job Function/Description

High Tech High seeks a motivated, organized, creative, flexible and data-driven candidate to lead organization-wide work around data analysis, state assessment policies, compliance, and reporting. The ideal candidate is familiar with High Tech schools and aligned with HTH design principles (learn more about HTH design principles at https://www.hightechhigh.org/about-us/).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Team Management

  • Set vision and direction for data and analytics to ensure we are advancing student achievement, developing a data driven organizational culture, and maximizing our impact and resources.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with key stakeholders about questions, deadlines, and processes concerned with data and accountability
  • Build institutional documentation of key processes and systemsPartner with central office and school site leaders to refine vision and provide data solutions in support of organizational and school site needs
  • Ensure compliance with all state and local reporting and accountability needs for data and assessment

Data Analytics and Insights

  • Support school-based data managers to manage all data systems effectively and accurately at the school levelIn partnership with senior leaders, set vision and strategy for organizational data collection and reporting to build a data driven culture and support organizational decision making.
  • Coordinate the collection, validation, storage and analysis of student achievement data and staff and student survey data
  • Design data reports to share with stakeholders and internallyBuild systems and lead team to provide accurate, timely, and actionable dataTrain and develop staff on how to leverage data reports to drive decisions and improve outcomes for students, teachers, and organization

Compliance & Accountability

  • Support the organization and schools in staying compliant with all state and local policies related to student data, assessment, and organizational reporting
  • Oversee cyclical compliance reporting to the State of California and other high stakes reporting to key entities
  • Lead the successful execution of standardized student assessment across schoolsAct as lead testing coordinator to support school specific testing coordinators

Knowledge and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • K-12 school experience required
  • Strong project, process, or people management skills required
  • Proven track record of strong data management and analysis:
  • High proficiency in Excel-based data manipulation required; Comfort with relational database modeling, architectures, and analysis required; Familiarity with database management and SQL a plus,
  • Capable of writing efficient code in R or Python
  • Strong analytical and adaptive problem-solving skills.
  • Strong data visualization and analysis skills required.
  • Knowledge of Looker Studio is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement a significant plus

Prior experience developing data strategy and solving data challenges in the specific context of state accountability and assessment standards a significant plus

Ability to switch flexibly between extreme detail orientation and high-level strategic vision to deliver accurate and high-quality products

Collaborative mindset and strong written and oral communication skills

Resilience, strong work ethic and outcomes orientation—demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities under stress and follow through to deliver unfailing excellence, despite tight or unexpected deadlines and circumstances

Working Conditions

The principal office for the Director, Data and Analytics is located on HTH’s Point Loma campus in San Diego, California. However, this position is expected to travel to various HTH campus sites (San Marcos, Chula Vista and Clairemont) as needed.

$113,828 - $130,742 a year

This position is a Classified, 220 day position with a salary range between $113,828 - $130,742, commensurate with experience. HTH offers a very competitive benefits package, to include medical, dental, and vision for full-time employees and their dependents.
