Job Description

SAIC seeks an experienced and energetic Data Scientist to support the Air Base Air Defense (ABAD) Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) system providing the United States Air Force’s airbases with a networked and resilient air defense capability. The ABAD BMC2 system provides the local Wing Commander a tactical operational picture aligned with the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) and Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) theater capabilities while providing point defense with the command and control of organic sensors and effectors. This next generation system shall employ the latest advancements across the technology spectrum to include AI/ML and distributed architectures.

The Data Scientist candidate works in cross-functional teams with data at all stages of the analysis lifecycle to derive actionable insight. Translates mission needs into an end-to-end analytical approach to achieve results. Performs the pre- analytics areas of data collection and understanding, data cleansing and integration, and data storage and retrieval. Determines the appropriate analytics based on the data and the desired outcomes, using techniques including feature detection, statistics, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, and business intelligence. Interprets the validity of results and communicates the meaning of those results. Has familiarity with data wrangling, analytics, and visualization software and programming languages, including analytics methods for big data. Follows a scientific approach to generate value from data, verifying results at each step.

Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives. 

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and ten (10) years or more of related experience; Masters and eight (8) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and five (5) years or more experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, with experience in data manipulation, analysis, and visualization. 
  • Proficiency in machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling techniques, such as regression, clustering, and time series analysis. 
  • Experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop and Spark, and familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. 
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 
  • Familiarity/Experience with MS Azure Government Cloud & Resource Manager (ARM), Docker and Kubernetes, Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD processes and pipelines.
