Pinterest is one of the fastest growing online ad platforms and our success depends on mining rich user interest and intent data to connect Pinners with the most relevant advertisers. The Ad Retrieval team builds models and systems to connect the dots between the aspirations of pinners and the products offered by our partners. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing a vision for the evolution of machine learning technology stack within Ads Retrieval. You will work on developing new candidate generators, shaping lightweight ranking utility functions, implementing analytical and creative solutions to improve funnel efficiency. 

What you’ll do:

• Own the technical direction and roadmap for a major area in the Retrieval team.
• Exemplar for technical quality – design, implementation, documentation, code reviews.
• Develop models and systems that lead to step-function improvements to the retrieval systems.
• Collaborate with product partners in defining the outcomes and direction of the product.
• Collaborate and be a thought partner to cross-functional teams to build scalable and resilient technical solutions.
• Be a multiplier on the team, mentor and uplevel team members

What we’re looking for:

• MS or Ph.D degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field

• 8+ years working experience in the engineering teams that build large-scale ML-driven user-facing products

• 2+ years experience leading cross-team engineering efforts.

• Deep practical knowledge of large scale recommender systems, or ads delivery funnels

• Experience in deep learning, transformers, deep cross network, 2-tower modeling, etc. Hands-on experience training and applying models at scale using deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or Tensorflow

• Experience with large scale data processing (e.g. Hive, Scalding, Spark, Hadoop, Map-reduce)

• Strong coding experience in Python/Java
