Job Description

Clarivate seeks a talented Lead Data Scientist to provide analytical support to help keep the Web of Science free from low quality content and protect the integrity of the journal-level metrics published in the JCR. This role reports into the Director, Editorial Integrity and is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to couple their data science skills with the chance to make a meaningful positive impact on the integrity of the scholarly record and help accelerate scientific innovation.

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

• Bachelor’s degree in an analytical/numerical subject (including, but not limited to, mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, engineering disciplines, data science)
• 3-5 years in a data science role
• 1 or more years of experience with SQL and Excel, and with working with APIs
• 1 or more years of experience in Python and R
• Proficient in English language (verbal and written)

It would be great if you also had…

• Strong problem-solving skills
• An interest in scholarly communications and protecting the integrity of the scholarly record
• Experience working in the Python data analysis ecosystem, e.g., Pandas, numpy, scipy, dask
• Understanding of the features and metadata associated with academic literature through use of Web of Science, Scopus, Dimensions or Google Scholar e.g., citation networks

What will you be doing in this role?

• Extracting and preparing data for analysis to support Web of Science editorial evaluations and investigations where concerns have been raised regarding the quality of indexed content
• Working closely with the Director, Research Integrity, the Editorial VP of Web of Science and data science colleagues in other Clarivate divisions to develop new approaches that can be applied at scale to help identify low quality content within the scholarly record
• Supporting data extraction and analysis for Journal Impact Factor (JIF) suppression methodology
• Carrying out various machine learning, network, statistical or other analyses for reports and ad hoc projects
• Creating data visualizations

About the Team 

• The Web of Science editorial team are the gatekeepers for the Web of Science – the leading publisher-neutral global citation database
• You will be reporting into the Director, Editorial Integrity and collaborating with the editorial leadership team and data science colleagues in ISI and the Data Science division
• You will be part of the wider Web of Science editorial team with ~50 members across the UK, USA, Spain, Serbia, India and New Zealand
• You will play a key role in the ongoing transformation of the Web of Science editorial division as we continue to adapt to the rapidly evolving publishing landscape whilst respecting heritage and legacy
